Having favorite bands is so 20th century.
No, I'm joking, but I find that I can't really identify mine because over the last year or so the music that I've been enjoying has been from indie outfits with one release, artists whose work I like part of but not all, or artists whose work I'm not fully familiar with so I can't call them a favorite because I might hate their other work.
Am I thinking too much, or not enough?
I had the same thought!
Just listing my favorite bands makes me feel like a dinosaur. You're right, it's so twentieth century. For better or worse, these days I'm mostly listening to music a la carte. As Merlin ruefully told Arthur in "Excalibur", "It's the way of things".
One day a couple of years ago I looked at my CD's and it occurred to me that I was a museum, and that I didn't even know how to find the good new stuff anymore. My friends were all museums, too, so I started asking teenage boys. See, I had a brand new iPod and it seemed a shame to just fill it up with the same old stuff. Is that what Apple wanted??
