This is the best Moz song since...

Trying to think. While I am not blown away by this song, I think it can clearly be called the best song he's recorded since anything on Vauxhall.

I mean, compared to his last singles - what - Dagenham Dave, Boy Racer, Alma Matters. This is easily better than those. Although, the sound is a little more 'Boy Racer'-esque than I would like.

I for one feel that this song, while boring to me in some ways, is probably a good choice for a single. I could see it get in to Radio rotation and have people (non-moz fans) get hooked on it.

I felt the same way about 'The More You Ignore Me' - I actually felt it was the most uninteresting track on Vauxhall, but it blew up as a single.

I have a feeling that's the angle they are taking here.

In any case, what I want more than anything in the world is a song with just one classic 'Morrissey' lyric that is as quotable as what he did in the smiths / early solo days.

He was full of so many word plays, truisms and ironies - That seems to have dwindled. I mean I want writing like:

Don't leave your torch behind
A powercut ahead; 1972, you know
And so we crept through the park
No, I cannot steal a pair of jeans off a clothesline
For you
But you ... without clothes
Oh, I could not keep a straight face
Me - without clothes ?
Well, a nation turns its back and gags...

Maybe the best single but the best song ? Trouble loves me is far better - wonder why it wasn't put out as a single

Wow, Phrenzy! I agree though, I had goosebumps during the entire song ( I had to get the twats at San Diego's 91X to play it) LOVELY

I too have been watiting for the next track w/ sprinklings of the Smiths or Viva Hate era lyric writing. Hoping the rest of the album will have more promise..

Well, I just loved the song! It sounds so good. It´s really on the vibe of "Boy Racer". But I think I prefer "The first of the gang to Die". I´m so curious to hear the album version of this song!
