'This Is Morrissey' details - liner notes by Fiona Dodwell; vinyl release date Aug. 31, 2018

I just got this email from Crash Records, apparently it’s on Cd too.

Good morning Moz fans,

As you know we like to keep you posted about new releases and there is a new Morrissey compilation coming out on CD and vinyl on Friday 6th July.

It's a brand new compilation curated by the man himself ahead of his summer tour dates. The CD album is £4.99 with a 4 page booklet and liner notes by author Fiona Dodwell.

Those same liner notes are also on the LP (£18.99) only this time in French!

It's available to pre-order now and can be be posted out or collected from our Leeds city centre shop.

Cheers,
All at Crash

The CD has a track less according to Crash, Angel is missing. Obviously that makes a load of sense as normal, but I suppose we should be grateful the CD collectors are being considered at all.

Famous when dead adds the Piccadilly Records description:

Morrissey is never one to do things the accustomed way, instead throughout his career he’s carved a niche in the musical landscape which only he can occupy. And his decision to curate a brand new compilation at very short notice ahead of his tour dates, with new liner notes and a few surprises in the tracklisting, shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone.

So here it is, This Is Morrissey. A collection of studio classics, live tracks and the alternative Mael mix of the ever-popular ‘Suedehead’, all chosen by the man himself. He explains all on this brand new interview for tremr.com, with this neat little summary of the tracks he’s chosen:
“The album is so full of life, and worthy questions, and great choruses, and quite playful.”

Housed in a standard single CD jewel case, with a four page booklet and brand new liner notes by author Fiona Dodwell, there will be two versions of the CD product, a twelve track version for the world outside of North America and a ten track version for North America, final detail of which will be confirmed on a separate note at a later point. The digital version worldwide will reflect the twelve track CD release.

There is also a thirteen track vinyl edition, with the additional track ‘Angel, Angel, Down We Go Together’, complete with identical liner notes only this time written in French, another of Morrissey’s little curio’s.

...Looks like Piccadilly were correct.

Random worrying thought... This isn't the new album that he said was underway is it?:straightface::paranoid:
don't think so because someone said earlier that this was a rushed project and they didn't have a long time to pick the songs.chicarelli also said he could be in the studio in October.

He still has the Suedehead mix on this even after Russell Mael's (accurate) comments on Morrissey? I wonder how that went down. Was the tracklist sent to production before Mael's comments or does Morrissey not care?

To be fair, it's a great mix.
this would have been done n dusted before the mael comments came out.

Lead times for vinyl are much longer than CD's : there are less vinyl planets and higher demand. CD pressing plants have more capacity and much smaller lead times.

This compilation is an appalling concept. I thought it was a fan photoshop when I first saw it.

This is just another way of making easy money, as he knows most fans will buy it even when they have the songs already. Also another way to keep his name out there so he's not forgotten, specially after so many screwed up moments.
Is he really making a lot of money off of it?

Maybe not 'a lot' - but at £19 an LP, with zero costs involved in recording new material, and a cover presumably slapped together in 5 minutes by his nephew, then even if he only makes a couple of grand it's a decent payday for almost no effort.

He could draw a swastika on my own child's face while fellating Tommy Robinson and fingerblasting that Waters woman and it wouldn't be as offensive as this piss-poor cheap knock-off pile of crap compilation.

C'mon, you don't want the vinyl version of those weird $2.99 Greatest (s)Hits cassettes you find at out of the way truck stops? What's he have to do??? Write good songs and stop being a knob?

Now listing on Amazon UK (exactly the same pattern as the single) for those who appear to give them more credence:
(not listed Stateside yet).

Vinyl (31st August):

CD (6th July):
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DL8GHMN/

So in the last year it appears to be:
Indie shops->HMV->Amazon place holder->Amazon full listing
(From first to last).

Assuming any digital products appear, place their appearance at the end of the list.

Totally agree, but unfortunately being one of those sad collector types, I won't be able to stop myself buying the cd, vinyl & the US edition.

I truly wonder how much time did Morrissey spend compiling this. 15 minutes? I'm sure he never even listened to these tracks -- or any other tracks for that matter -- to see how they flow together.

Only two of these actions are plausible. :lbf: ...But of course you're absolutely right.

He could have at least reworked the titles. Whatever happens I love jew. The harsh truth of der spiegel's eye. You're the one for me Tommy. Make it a proper deranged collector's item.

Maurice's slipping...:tears:

'You're the one for me, Tommy' Very good.

Nah not really, dead easy rhyme, really.;)

Tommy looks like he accidentally got under the wheels of an Easyjet when he was a kid, a face only a mother and James Cagney could love, which is fine, only James Cagney can't be his daddy since Tommy also has the charisma of a boiled anchovy. And there's the sunbed thing. And the fact that he constantly look on the verge of...tears.

....I worry about Morrissey's taste in men, is all. Like his food, they seem to get blander and blander. :D

Both the Amazon UK CD & vinyl listings have changed from placeholders to regular Amazon preorders now - as predicted.

All of those remastered versions might be great if you order the CD, on vinyl though, some of the original masters were done to suit vinyl in the first place and so a digital remaster might be a downgrade as the new masters will be to suit a different medium. Just a thought if you're buying to get 'upgraded' versions of what you already own.
