You gotta love Stephen Street. One of the biggest mistakes of Morrissey's career is that he didn't make another album with him. It was a combination that really worked. Not saying he had to keep that 'sound' going for ever. But when you strike gold in that way, it is always worth mining a bit more, before moving on.

The self pitying is now at grotesque levels......he helped make his pariah bed and still thinks he's beyond any questioning. He alienated a legion of fans over the last 5 years and ones who stood in his corner time and time again. Searching for endless self validating 'look i am popular' video clips and thinking anyone outside of this echo chamber actually cares.

Not doing at least one more album with Street was a missed opportunity for sure. You've got to wonder how it would have changed his career trajectory. For example, if they had done another album around 1990... would Bona Drag have been the album he envisioned instead of the compilation? I think so. Does Kill Uncle still happen? Maybe not. More importantly, does he still end up with Alain, Boz, and Spencer?

I think no and no to the last two questions.

It sure feels like a missed opportunity, but if you consider he went on to create two masterpieces in 1992 and 1994 it may actually have been a blessing. He really became a solo artist on his own terms and on his own strength with those two albums.
