HARRY BELAFONTE, RIP

(The Man That Got Away: "The winds grow colder. Suddenly you're older.")
FWD.

He’s good in e, that Sidney potter. Personally I pronounce it ‘harry belafonte’.

Why God, why!? Only 96 years old, that's far too young to go, he still had the rest of his life ahead of him . Think of all the Harry Belafonte music and film roles we're going to miss out on because he got taken away from us too soon. This is even sadder than the time 103 year old Kirk Douglas died. I'm not sure how much more of this I can take. Daylight come and me wanna go to bed and cry myself to sleep because the grief is just too much. Harry, I'm going to miss you! I'm addressing this to you directly just in case there's a chance that you're reading this. You'll be playing Banana Boat Song with the angels soon. Godspeed.

All that we know and love keeps fading away. Just as we do everyday. It’s sad to see these beautiful souls who brought so much joy to our lives pass away. Age isn’t the factor, really, it’s just part of it. May Harry Belafonte find peace and light.

The scene in Tim Burtons brilliant Beetlejuice round the dining table where they all dance to Harrys Banana Boat Song always makes me chuckle, Day-O...

A great man to pay tribute to. Excellent in his movie Odds Against Tomorrow (1959), which I re-watched on YouTube in his memory. There are great scenes of New York City and Hudson, and it was made by Belafonte's own production company.

Harry’s rendition of Steal Away is stellar. 10/10.

Jeez, does SER ever get a quote right? What a klutz.
RIP Harry. Art really can change attitudes and the way people think. And when you do that - you change the world.

I cannot figure out what is meant by this comment, but both Poitier and Belafonte were among those participating in a notable 1963 TV panel:

"On the day of the historic “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom” (August 28, 1963), known today as The Great March on Washington, CBS aired a 30-minute roundtable discussion featuring Harry Belafonte, James Baldwin, Marlon Brando, Charlton Heston, Joseph L. Mankiewicz and Sidney Poitier -

See especially Belafonte's speech from 15 minutes 30 seconds in.

As a child, I remember him being suave and multi-talented in Sunday afternoon TV films. But he had been working till quite recently, appearing for example, in the gripping 2018 film BlacKkKlansman

A true legend R.I.P.

It’s the opening words of the entire Only Fools and Horses saga.

You plonker!
