The Suede thread for Suede things

Why are Blur back together? Or Pulp? Most bands reform eventually.
Lack of new ideas? Nostalgia? Money? Familiarity? All of the above?

It is almost never a good idea.

That's fair and I agree but so then why reform the band?
I feel like he had a point to prove/score to settle. Suede had pretty much been written out of history by the mid 00s. And their later albums like "Head Music" and "A New Morning" weren't all that great. I think it was about reminding the world of who they were and what they were capable of. I think the reunion albums have been pretty good, though not a patch on the Bernard Butler-era stuff admittedly. And they're a GREAT live act these days (saw them in Bristol earlier this year)

Blur seem to just have break from each other for a while and then come together again. It seems to work for them as each time they return they release a good album which gets to number one and play massive gigs like the 2 mights at Wembley Stadium next weekend, I still struggle to get my head around how they can pull audiences of that size.

Pulp seem to do the same but without the new music, looking forward to seeing them this Tuesday at Castlefield Bowl.

Yes, and Oasis could follow soon.

It’s nice for the fans I suppose, for nostalgia reasons, but it adds little to nothing to the legacy of a band.

It adds to the legacy if you keep scoring number 1 albums as Blur seem to be able to do.

True, apart from their first two album all their albums have been UK number 1’s.

Quite incredible really, like you say, how they have managed to stay so popular for so long.

Love this footage of them chilling before entering the stage at their gig in Dublin last week. You can also see Phil Daniels on there as well.

They were in Amsterdam last week, too.
Venue was half empty, reviews were not very good.

Obviously more of a UK/Ireland phenomenon than anywhere else. I do quite like the new single though.

Yes I read the review, said it was 75% full though and that 10000 people were there.

Damon sang poorly and the band weren’t tight either, they said.
Hope they improve soon, before Wembley.

Which is odd as they have played quite regularly for the last few weeks, maybe they enjoyed the relaxed attitude to dope a bit too much
