The Smiths on The Beatles...

But Lennon
> makes me bored, cause he was a lazy junkie, who used to sing
> POWER TO THE PEOPLE, pretending that he was really concerned
> about people's right. Well, it's so easy saying PEOPLE GO...
> PEOPLE DO IT... PEOPLE STRIKE THAT, and wear a dirty old jeans,
> and say peace and love... especially when you have thousands of
> dollar in you pillow. Lennon is NOT a heroe for me at all.

Don't you think that's a bit harsh?? Yes he was a heroin addict for a while, but drugs are a completely different subject.... I truely believe that can happen to anyone, especially within the frame of constant temptation in the music business. It says nothing about a character - besides, he fought it and won.
And as far as the love and peace rubbish is concerned - again I say look at it within the context! Of course it seems pretty lame from our point of view, but remember we're talking 60ies, everyone was doing it and it WAS pretty rebelious. I mean I don't think any rock star of today would cause such an outrage just by lying in bed or growing his hair.
And

> How about his annoing voice, and his poor performances?

He had the most gorgeous metally screatching voice and was one of the most expressionist singers of all time, some bits make your toenails curl up if you listen to them closely!! And he was a bloody fantastic performer, probably one of the most charismatic of all times..... I'm not talking Shea Stadium where you could hardly hear a thing, I'm talking that noone who ever saw them at the Star Club will ever forget them. I live in Hamburg, so believe me I've met a few who saw them...

Well,
> and I will not mention Yoko, cause it's waste of time. ...

Oh no, don't mention the ugly snail, for once I'm with you...But for some reason only he knew he loved her and it's not our business to debate why or how he could.

> George Harrisson never had the real recognition that he
> deserves. He had to silence his wonderful talent,

that's true, and his "While my guitar gently weeps" guess what - happens to be my favourite song....

just because
> two bastards decided that his solos were not good enough. George
> is the GREAT moment of The Beatles...

Well, appearantly he didn't think he was good enough himself since he got his mate Eric Clapton to play the solo in the above song... Besides, if you're so anti-drugs - George was the first one of the lads who started passing LSD around...

Besides, if I have to
> listen to them, I prefer listening to the silly Ringo singing...
> "Now it's time to say good night... Good night... Sleep
> tight"...

Hm well, yeah, sweet voice but not very memorable, that's the problem.

Of course Morrissey is better than Lennon (I'm
> talking about the lyrics)...

Noone EVER denied that, surely not me.....

Hey Little Miss, don't ya think the best work done by a Beatle was Ringo voice overing Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends?!

God, YES! When I was on a ski-ing trip to Andorra (a nasty experience which I don't want to delve into) the only channel we could get was Cartoon Network. They showed cartoons in different languages throughout the day. As Andorra has virtually no English spoken in that little country, and there were no bars anywhere to be found, the highlight of our day was to sit and watch Thomas the Tank Engine and marvel at the beauty of the English language. Happy memories...actually unhappy memories, as the thought of TTTE (AF) takes me back into that little brown room with nothing to do with only yogurt and trout to eat on a table with four people I wanted to murder...AGGGHHH!

Maybe that's why I don't like the Beatles.

Don't Mention It

Don't mention it... it's all in a day's work for Dirk McNasty...

The Beatles and The Smiths

> Please continue, I would LOVE to hear the 'other story'.

Sadly, there aren't enough hours in the day... but the 60s and the 80s were very different contexts for alternative guitar bands (and yes, The Beatles really were "alternative") to be operating in... opposite ends of the commercial spectrum really... The Beatles were like the first "Indie" band in a sense... with them the pop template was drawn..

It sounds like a Simple Minds LP... which is not a good thing...

Re: My two penneth!

And besides...would that really be medically feasible?! Hmmn? I suppose if you were given the heart of an english person and were of Irish decent it may just work, provided of course the immuno-suppressants were successful in preventing rejection of the implanted organ...or the person in question didn't contract any other diseases whilst on the course of said immuno-suppressant medication (and I'm thinking it would probably be along the lines of something like azathioprine?..Maybe, although I cannot really say...)and thus die from some other, yet oddly related, horrible condition...

Well I'm in over my ventricles on this one...Anyone any ideas?

I'm afraid I'm unclear on what you mean when you say 'We don't have the pull that the kids who are buying Britney, and 98 degrees have.' Can you clarify? I'm curious again...

Nonsense! Loads a money will be spent! That's cray-zee tawk!

Let's not.

I'll try it next Monday.

Maybe if he was drained of all blood and had it replaced by a bloke named Sean it could work too.

P.S The Magic Fairy is on a course and I miss him. Sniff.

I'm sure I don't know what you mean! : )

Off on a course?! That's rubbish, it's horrid when they are away...you don't have to tell me I already know.

We should unite and myther amongst ourselves!

Especially when they don't ring when they SAY THEY WILL.

Yes. Let us.

Re: Sod the bus I have a lovely mini!

YEAH...that should be an offence that has a really nasty comeuppance! Like - must trap fingers in cutlery draw or look into microwave whilst it is cooking and get really sore eyes for a while afterwards...

> Yes. Let us.

Yes let's.

No, he didn't... He was a drug user during all his life...

But he insisted on his "peace and love" after 60's...

LSD and WATER were the same during 60's, we know that, but Lennon was a drug sicker during all his life. A selfish, egomanic person until his last day, and this is not a secret. George invited his friend Clapton for that solo and Eric did want to do SO MUCH, but you will find great of his solos in "Revolver"...

But you must thank GEORGE for that, despite of Lennon and Paul...

THIS IS ONLY A NOSTHERN SONG

> But he insisted on his "peace and love" after 60's...

Yes but it was the generation you know...

A selfish,
> egomanic person until his last day, and this is not a secret.

Okay I hope this is the last time I feel forced to add something because I'm growing sick and tired of this whole issue...just look at the hilarious size of the thread! Anyway....
Morrissey is known to his whole entourage, his band, friends and God knows to whoever else as being very selfish and egomanic himself. But that's just ONE aspect of him you know - I mean we're all aware that someone who was just that could never write these things. So this is something the two men have in common: writing words that would melt people's heart whilst not treating their closest ones the best at all times. But then consider the pressure you're under when you're famous and you have to stand up to some public image all the time.....
Oh bugger it. I have nothing to say anymore. PLeeeeaaaase do me a favour and don't reply to this, otherwise I'll have to shoot myself....

Aw...where has he gone to? I'm stuck at home and I'm bored and it's raining. Can I be maudline with you?

Re: Oh bugger!

He's somewhere hot and foreign and far away to boot! I'm trying not to think about it, but failing miserably.

You most certainly can be maudlin with me...hey we could be like that old man on the fast show...only there'd be two of us and we can go about casting doom and gloom and generally being wet blankets.

Alternatively you should get yourself on over here, we could get blind drunk and plan a revolution or something?!

Ooh tonight sees me making notes on Intel...how scintillating

Laughing...I don't think Mr Punchdrunk realises why greasy took against him so vehemently!

Boo-ger.

Ooh, I wish I was there! I really really wish I was back over in France, I don't know how much more of this rain I can take! Sod my prickly heat - if I don't get some sun soon I won't be suprised if I get rickets!

> You most certainly can be maudlin with me...hey we could be like

That's a option..

That's much better option. You bring the vodka, I'll bring the orange.

> Ooh tonight sees me making notes on Intel...how scintillating

The highlight of my night tonight was to go onto the C4 chat to ask that woman who presents 'Flatmates' on C4 a question. The only thing that was shown which I wrote was 'Ooh...conspiracy.' That was not worth the £10.99 a month subscription fee for the internet in my opinion.

> Laughing...I don't think Mr Punchdrunk realises why greasy took

Meester Punchdrunk hasn't got the knack for insulting like Greasetea - it's a skill I admire.

Ever get the feeling that your life couldn't be any more utter wank?

And can I be arsed to stay up for Sigur Ros? Nah...

Tell you what, throw in a bottle of lemonade and a packet of peanuts and it's a deal!

Well...there's always the porn channels for getting your moneys worth! And lets not forget the joys of sending off for free stuff...Like British Gas Fridge Magnets!!!

> Meester Punchdrunk hasn't got the knack for insulting like

You see, it's because he enjoys himself so...although he has other skills I admire too...

Only on a day to day basis. so not that often really. Besides I've got my lovely little rescued cats.

Oooh on a high note though! Lush have recently opened up a shop in York, have you ever tried their stuff? if you haven't you must!
