The Smiths ~ "Complete" 5 star review in new 'Uncut' magazine

Vile Refusenik
Sublime review by David Cavanagh. Incisive and eloquent summation of the unique talents of Morrissey and Marr, and of the times they came into brief blossom {the Nineteen Hate-ies}. And warm approval of the re-mastered audio.

Cheap dig in the final paragraph {'If M. can tear himself away from Joey Barton, perhaps he should listen again to these albums and remember a time when..yadah yadah yadah...}, but otherwise an uplifting read this morning.

Scans to follow, probably.

Would love to see a scan!

Someone posted this quote from the review in another forum:

We're told that the eight LPs on Complete have been personally remastered by Johnny Marr, though it's likely that the principal work was done by engineer Frank Arkwright, who remastered the 2008 comp The Sound Of The Smiths. That album divided opinion between fans who enjoyed hearing Rourke's bass loud and clear, and those who found the songs too harsh. These new remasters (due to be released individually in the spring of 2012) seem 'softer', less abrasive, not so teeth-rattling. It depends how you want to listen.

Hopefully you'll actually be able to hear the lead guitar in 'How Soon Is Now?' clearly...

I also wish, though I know it will never happen, that they'd find the original tapes and take out those annoying fade outs on 'That Joke...' and 'Some Girls...'
