"The Queen Is 25 : The Smiths Tribute Album" - Cover Lovers

Twenty five years ago, The Smiths, arguably the greatest British band of the 1980s, released their masterpiece, The Queen Is Dead.

"Like the Sex Pistols' God Save the Queen, the Smiths' The Queen Is Dead was designed as a state-of-the-nation address. The parallels are many: explicit criticism of the monarchy as a pillar of the existing class system; the toughest hard rock as the most effective method of making your point; lyrics that are a blast of eloquent rage from the standpoint of an outsider – in each case a young man of Irish extraction.
When The Queen Is Dead was released in June 1986, Britain was nearing the end of a second term of Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government. There was surprisingly little dissidence expressed in popular culture, as the onset of CD software inaugurated a wave of retro marketing."
John Savage, The Guardian, December 15th, 2010

on Hallowwen I unwrapped all the Tootsie Rolls and melted them with caramel squares and made Tootsie=Caramel Apples. It was really good but now my teeth hurt.

Like the Sex Pistols the Smiths music has been reduced to the sound track of TV products all those whom have aloud their music to be used in adverts shoot be beaten.

I think you will find that in most instances, the band members who wrote the songs have no say in the matter. The record company owns the rights to the songs and can do with them as they wish. The band members who wrote the songs naturally receive their share of royalties but can not do anything about their release unless they are a big enough band to demand that in their contract.

We Greeks are having a very difficult time right now. This work is a very strong message to everyone, that shows the youth's culture despite the bad social and financial conditions in our country

Sorry, but it sends no message at all to anyone about the state of Greece.
