"The People I Dont Like" - The Smiths?

Has anyone ever heard of this referenced as Smiths song?

We have an old tape in the loft and my wife is adamant is a Smiths demo, that was given to her about 12 years ago by a friend (who used to be in corres with Morrissey). - she was told that it dated to about 82/83.

Im unsure about it, as Im sure I would have heard it name checked. Saying that, its been about 6 years since I heard it last.

I cant upload it as its on a C90 cassette. I will clamber in the loft over the weekend, find something to play it on again and scribble down the lyrics and repost

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The title of the thread led me to believe that you didn't like the Smiths. :D

Hmm, that sounds intriguing. Hope you find it!!!

I am not saying you are a wind up sheridan, but I recall this very thing happening some time ago and someone, I can not at the moment think who, said they had a tape in the attic of Morrissey and they wondered was it rare so on so on, it never came to light.
I must try dig out that post cause that one was a def wind up, not that anyone really believed it.

Just look at the hadwriting on the tape? I assume that he did;nt print it, unless he used a dymo machine to print up a label (which i would have like to witnessed)

this probably would have been included in Simon Goddard's book if it were real wouldn't it?
by the way, what's corres?
edit: coronation street?

Hmm. Based on the last thread like this a while back, and mentioned a few posts above me. I won't get my hopes up.

Part of me raises the air of disbelief. However... I must admit that less probable events have occured over the years.

This is not any sort of wind up. We do have a copy of this song on cassette - not the original. I just want to know if this song has ever been heard of as I've not seen it mentioned in any of the books but it is, apparentley, a Smiths demo. Anyone heard of it?

I'll get it over the weekend. I can assure you all it's no wind up unless the person years ago was winding my wife up!

It certainly sounds like them?

Purleeze! The words "We have an old tape in the loft" are such a giveaway. If you really had such a tape, you'd find it first, convert it to a better format, and either make shed-loads of money out of it, or pass it on to us and be a hero. As it is, you're just another attention seeking muppet who thinks it's funny to wind up vulnerable new-song starved Morrissey fans like me! Grrr! "Ooh listen to me, I've got an informal jam session recording of Elvis singing Happy Birthday Mr President Marilyn Munro-style whilst accompanied by Jimi Hendrix on guitar and Stevie Wonder on piano.... but it's in the garage on an unmarked TDK I made in 1974, I lost the original cassette cover in a big-brother related revenge attack due to my accidental destruction of his porno mag collection. Do you think it's real??? It certainly sounded like old Pelvis, Jimi and Stevie!"

Stop it!!

Before you starting throwing insults round, could you tell me what benefit I would get by posting a thread like this if I had just made it up? Do you think I have nothing better to do with my time?

I was reluctant to start this thread as I knew I would start getting crap thrown at me.

As I explained in a previous I do not have the technology to convert to MP3 from cassette. I will listen to it again over the weekend, post the lyrics and then pass a copy to someone who can convert it.

Cheers Skinny, will get it down tomorrow - have a listen/post lyrics. Then Im in London for the next 3 days!

Splendid - I have a gadget that converts tape, vinyl, in fact all-sorts into MP3, so give us a shout if you'd like a copy converting. As for the Nosebleeds clip, I missed it first time around - does anyone have a copy they'd be prepared to upload?

Ta,

Peter
