The Music That They Constantly Play - Radio Notes

you must not tamper with arrangements
Iggy Confidential is currently on BBC 6 Music on Sundays 4-6pm and can be tuned into live or as a podcast.

A week ago on the show, he played some music 23 minutes 23 seconds in, which he commented on afterwards, clearly impressed. It was the Durutti Column from Manchester, whose band leader Vini Reilly contributed to early Morrissey solo releases, and whose genius is finally gaining more mainstream recognition e.g. https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/vini-reilly-and-the-widespread-influence-of-his-work/
The 15th track of the show is also a Durutti Column number.

Iggy shares rare insights and stories, both factual and funny, and spins the most eclectic and high-quality playlist. Appointment listening at its best :radio:

Decent show by Mr Vaughn. Thanks The Wild Turkey : )

On Irish national radio about an hour ago, John Creedon played two Morrissey songs in a Row, My Life is a Succession of People Saying Goodbye, and I Wish You Lonely, to which the dj received an amount of favourable reaction from listeners. His show is on 8-10 weeknights - https://www.rte.ie/radio/radio1/john-creedon/

This song about radio atmospherics comes from an Irish band that once supported Morrissey, in 1991 in the National Stadium, I think

Iggy played 'glamorous Morrissey' today, no. 22 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001hbpk
I like Iggy's introduction: "Here he is - the glamourous Morrissey with Glamourous Glue". I seem to remember that it was the same track the last time he played a Morrissey song on his show, some months back. One comment he made recently about another song (not by Morrissey) stuck in my mind: "that sounds not at all commercial, and I like that".

It's been quite a while then since Iggy featured Morrissey, and I'm surprised the same song is spun, but I gather Iggy has his playlist and notes, probably with some conferring, mainly compiled by his producer, Adam Dineen, who may be a Beeb line-toer.

The non-commercial is a scarce commodity, with the reality being that we increasingly enter the market-place, to play or be inadvertently or deliberately played. So feet on ground and wits about us ; )

Tracy Chapman takeover on Pine Royal (Polaroid Radio) on April 30th, 2023

Stefan and I, who are behind Tracy Chapman Online, were fortunate enough to be invited by Polaroid Radio to curate music as guests on Royal Pine, a radio station dedicated to folk, soul and roots music that has something to say.

We were asked to create a broadcast entirely dedicated to Tracy Chapman and her influences.

Her most iconic songs are presented in versions you probably don’t know, we included some of our personal favorite songs of hers and also the music that inspired Tracy throughout her life. It’s a sweet blend of gospel, soul and folk music. You’ll be able to listen to those 40 tracks and the insights we recorded for you, sharing our fondest memories of these songs that have imprinted our souls like a branding iron.
