This may be my favorite Smiths song...I just love it...

I loved it a lot more before I found out it was a waste to spend $100 on the 7" single...when 2 months later it was reissued by WEA

Another excellent early Smiths b-side. Great kitchen-sink lyrics from Mozzer, lovely music from Marr. A solid 9.

Fantastic lyrics, little let down by the music. 8

Ah yes, one of those Smiths songs we all have to pretend we really love coz a) it's obscure and b) it's from the early period (for any band the 'early stuff' is always deemed to be morally superior!)

Yeah, the words are good but the music is pretty dull. Ever found yourself whistling the melody? Nope?
Told you!

I can't whistle but i have hummed it.

I'm sure there are very few who pretend to love it, i myself can't help but loving as song with lyrics like:

"Jeane
I'm not sure what happiness means
But I look in your eyes
And I know
That it isn't there"

YES I DO :p

I thinking the Billy Bragg version is much bettter.
Morrissey's vocals now sound a bit flat:would be interesting to hear him sing it now as he's got a much stronger, emotional voice now.

Has anyone got the billy Bragg version that they could upload? I've not heard it, but I love his "Brewing up' album.

This is a definate 10. It's just...wonderful.

A great song, but the music, or perhaps production, lets it down for me. I prefer the Sandie Shaw version because its not clogged up with guitars (and it still has Morrissey on it). 8, no, 9 out of 10. It was only their second release, and for some reason that does make it all the more special.

“It’s just a fairy tale, and I don’t believe in magic anymore Jeane”

One of my favourite lyrics. Great song, I gave it an 8.

Some songs I hav to think anbout it, and get all indeciseive..... This one, the mouse just went streight to 10 before I'd even had time to think about it!

Classic sound, classic voice, classic lyrics!

wow, i thought there'd be more people saying they hate it, nice to know im not the only one who LOVES it, 'crap' music and all...;)

I see what you are saying about the music letting it down a bit, try playing it whilst doing housework chores that you dont like. its amazing how you'll whip through those chores :D
I can happily have it on lop for an hour and not get sick of it.

an 8

toplyrics, though i gave it point less cause i find sandie's version, especially
her singing not good, same as with 'hand in glove'
Sandie Shaw has a wonderfull voice, but not for Smiths song...you might
say ;'but were voting the one with Morrisseys voice', I know but Sandie's
version will always be connected with this, wheter you like it or not
