While we wait for the new album to arrive, let us go about rating the songs we know, on a daily basis, and compile our own Morrissey/Smiths Top 100.

I like the vitriol in it,
'even I sick as I am I could never be you'.

One that makes me want to personally tell him to get his head out of his arse. One of the two worst songs on Quarry.

Hahaha! Too right :)
I quite liked it on the first few listens, but I soon became bored of it, same with the rest of the album. He sounds like a petulant child.

to me this is the weakest quarry-track. but i like it.

That honor goes to Lazy Dykes...and America Is Not The World is just a notch above that one...

I consider it the weakest track on Quarry as well, so I gave it a 7.
However, there's a fantastic live version of it on the "Personel Fest, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 6 November 2004" bootleg (Moz was having microphone problems throughout the concert and is absolutely pissed off - which just adds even more anger to his voice in this...).

I gave it even odds at 5 b/c the music is pretty good--just wasted on a pithy, lazy lyric. The snaky riff Alain provided deserved better than such a juvenile tantrum. And Dean's drumming is one of his more straightforward and propulsive efforts--more was needed elsewhere on the album.

Cheers,

Jamie

how could you possibly think that this song is the worst on You are the Quarry. It has such passion and musically is one of my favourite. But really this album includes Let Me Kiss You, I Like You and Come Back to Camden which are all really quite awful.

are we listening to the same songs, i am a great fan of Morissey and of this album but these songs are stodgy and lyrically some of the worst songs i've heard from Morrissey. They have none of the edge or wit in music or lyrics which makes Morissey so great.
