In 2007, and early 2008, we put up polls for all 234 then released Morrissey and The Smiths-songs. More than 25,000 votes were cast and the result was The Morrissey/Smiths Top 100, or indeed, The Morrissey/The Smiths Top 234. This year many people have asked me to continue with the polls as 18 new Morrissey-songs have been released since. With the release of 'Swords' now seems as good a time as any to start them.

Now that we've done all the new songs from 2009, and the older songs released this year, and with no foreseeable new songs in the near future, to finish these series off we'll move to the unreleased (full) tracks that have emerged over the last couple of year, i.e. Born To Hang, Happy Lovers United, I'm Playing Easy To Get, Lifeguard On Duty, Oh Phoney, Please help The Cause Against Loneliness and Striptease With A Difference, in that order.

FINAL SONG!

4: Poor

as 'the cause against...' to me it's like song which had to record when
really finished the song, now they sound like demoos to be worked out

sorry that the poll ends with this kinda song, it deserved a better end.
anyway, my thanks for Mr Houdini, for this legendary poll,
it'll go down in virtuel history

proud that a member of small country did this enormous work, without
any flaws,Dutch citizens are well known for there liberal culure and open
for debate anything that might be important or have a positive influence on
future life and living

Mr Houdini is one of those, who just did the job, knowing he's has not that much free time on his hands as many here

my compliments G.

Another 7. Very lightweight, but still very well done. Both lyrically and musically. Good pop.

I'm sad its the final song, what will you do now Houdini?

Count the votes and publish them here next week!
Then I'll slip into obscurity again, most likely.

For anyone who hasn't voted yet in this or in any of the other 258 polls, now is your chance to still do so!

A strong seven. Lovely bitter-humorous lyrics, catching Madness-like tune. Should definitely have been a single.

cheers

There's something quintessentially Morrissey about this song:

the sick curse of luck

I'm cutting this queen / well this six is chewed / you're all undisguised / I'm stuck on shoes

So have you ever met a bad winner?
"Well how do you do?"

The very notion of manipulating a game of strip poker so you've got an excuse to get your kit off is pure Morrissey.

The melody is almost jaunty but there's a sense of grim purpose in the lyrics and vocal delivery.

Serious and silly; flippant and meaningful; carefree and doomed. How does he do it? How does he bring all these contradictions together into something so neat and narrow as a pop song?
