To be as eloquent and succinct as I can possibly be, this song is quite simply...........BLAH.
I gave it a 6 out of kindness and the fact that by the time I realized that was too generous, it was too late to change my vote.
The song's melody just comes across as too plodding and overdramatic and the lyrics are just kind of there. I dunno, the song really just doesn't do anything for me.
The only thing of interest to me regarding this song is how it displays a complete reversal of Moz's more youth-centric views of schooling shown in the Headmaster Ritual...which is kind of cool.

its too long, the first half is super boring. i always fast forward to the part where it gets really loud, and then i just listen to that part.

You're quite right, but it gave it 10 all the same, because the part that rocks is great.
It so dark the main melody.

EDIT: ^^I find it hard to pick favorites but well because of the below-stated reasons I will declare this my favorite song with you. :D

11 minutes of perfection. Not a single note out of place, not a single note missing. There's nothing that should be taken away, and nothing that could possibly be added.

Hoorah! :D

I love this song - its very brooding (is it shostacovich - i know thats spelt wrong) and i think its a brilliant lyric and it is above genius to reverse the brutality of "headmaster ritual" . I love it when his voice ascends into "say the wrong words to our children , we'll have you , oh yes we'l have you" I think southpaw is a superb album and is vastly underrated - give it another chance

I love this song. I give it an 8 on the cusp of a 9.

a 9

outstanding and far out best track on Southpaw Grammar
We thought Morrissey lost it, but with this lyrics he shows he still
can write beautifull and firm lyrics, the music acompanies Morrisseys
rage

edit;
i just wrote this piece of mistake, had reader meat author in mind, dunno
why, think all the news past days in here is the reason, i'n not really
focused plus have/had real life thing on me mind, as me mums birthday yesterday,
and have to go into town in about an hour to arrange something

wish we were 2 months further

Completely annoying song - especially that music that opens the song. Makes me want to bang my head against the wall whenever I hear it. Lyrically, it's pretty good - certainly one of the better lyrics on Southpaw - and it would have ranked much higher if the music weren't so dreadful. I remember when I first heard it, I thought it was another sign of the Mozocalypse: Morrissey was now singing from the perspective of the belligerent ghouls and the spineless swines with cemented minds. This just can't be a good thing.

Weird song... a total dirge for the first 4 mins.

Picks up nicely though. Always liked the production on the Southpaw songs - the drums have real punch.

5/10 for me.

6/10....... Average at best
