I think I remember reading an interview with Alain (or maybe Boz) where they said they had the amps cranked up so far for Boy Racer that you can hear the mikes picking up the echo at the beginning. Or something like that.

A solid 8.

But you voted 9. ;)

I can't believe I am the first to give this a 10! The only thing needed to justify how great this is, is that well, it rocks. The outro is perfect, I've heard a lot of criticism directed at the outro, but I think you people are just dead wrong! :p

A solid 8 does not preclude a slightly better 9.

Phew, I think I got away with it.

I think I see what you are saying. As a 9, it is a solid 8, and a solid 7, and a solid 6, and so on and so forth. Because if it was not solidly each of those individual ratings, it could not advance to higher levels!

Ah, at last the "The" songs that should have been scattered throughout the poll. ;)

The Boy Racer is a classic pop song - definitely one of the best tracks off Southpaw Grammar. I didn't like it as much until I saw Morrissey perform it live. He had a whole routine down during the Oye Esteban show, which consisted of using the banana prop during the "stood at the urinal" line and a dramatic rising arm followed by a "dealing cards" type gesture in the chorus. I remember my friend Jo and I doing our little Mozzer routine to the song after one of the shows... good times, good times...

Lyrically, it's definitely not one of Morrissey's best songs, but it's a fun song nonetheless. 8.

A very high 9. I love everything about this song.

from the Ice Age to the dole age
I love the fast-paced rhythm of this song but the lyrics let it down in a big way. A high 7, saved by the lines "He thinks he's got the whole world in his hands / Stood at the urinal".

Beastly Little Parasite
Lyrically, it's not his best, but I like the aggression and energy of the song. I'd love to see a return to this style. A 7 from me.

a 7

an OK single from Southpaw Grammar, musicly is good though a bit cheap,
anyone can play a wall of sound with good equipment

Lyricly I was always in doubt about is good or just fluff [ya know the
ones He writes during a 40 minute stay in a bath]...so after 12 years I'm
still between classic and poor, which mean average...but better than
Dagenham Dave though I could've given it an 8, it's 100 songs back...
I mean with some songs it's how you feel that day, and you would rank
them lower/higher on any other day

bla blah blah, I said too much and drank too much [morning glory coffee]

Well I Wonder

Now, Today, Tomorrow.....
Oh dear. 6/10. Not his best work.

Doing Very Well
This is one of the sexiest Morrissey songs. When he says, "I'm gonna kill him," believe me, "kill" is not the word that is racing through my mind. Oh, no.

Someone should write a novel based on this song. Maybe I will.

9.

A resounding 8 from me. A great tune coupled with a magnificent performance on the Jools Holland show in 1995 and the video is great too, love the Mozza dancing and seeing the very fit Martine McCutcheon admiring Mozza in the final scene in the video.
