If I had to choose one song to represent the smiths it would be this one.
10.
and he swore that he'd never never do it again, and of course he won't, eh, not until the next time.
Genius

Excellent lyrics and music, really no flaws in it. So not as epic as say Late Night, Maudlin Street, but really there is nothing that falls short in this song. So full of energy and clever, and I wish Morrissey would play it live on a whole tour. I think the current band would do a great job at it, well, I think this current band would do a great job on every song so yeah that opinion doesn't count for much.

10!

10 please.

I'm not a big fan of this one. It's okay, it has some good lines in it, but musically it's dull to me. I never really cared for the "rocking out" side of Marr, and during this particular stage Marr's aggressive songs were coming out sounding too similar. This one just kind of blurs into "London" which blurs into "I Started Something..." which blurs into "Sheila Take A Bow". None of which are particularly distinctive to me. The best part of this song is the "In the midst of life we are in debt, etc." line, but I'd still only rate this one a 7.

A bit overrated if you ask me.. I voted 8, but maybe it should have been even lower. I especially dislike Morrissey not so much singing, but yelling the word etcetera.

Yeah, I can't believe you guys are giving it a 10. I skip this track alot. *shrug* Not the best, that's for sure. Kinda repetative too.

I used to love it, now, I don't know, I stopped listening to it. Good lyrics, but the music is not as good.
I gave it 8, anyway.

a 9

almost , near classic Smiths song, instead of me bragging about the
beauty of Morrissey's lyrics, this song is all about Johnny, what a great
song he produced, guitars all over, this is a big 3 minutes musical masterwork

oh yeah, Morissey lyrics are very witty, almost laugh out loud...
I still wonder how he got away with it, cause there are some hilarious
harsh lines innit

and in the midst of life we are in debt etcetera

I think that if you play the guitar (even just strumming a few 'open' chords) you get an additional insight into songs and this one which, along with 3 or 4 other Smiths songs, I play nearly every day and never get bored. A fantastic piece of music and a fine lyric and vocal performance from our Steve. Dix points.

Cool music & cool lyrics. Cant ask for much more. 8/10.

Not necessarily. I play the guitar and I still find this music boring.

Maybe you play proper guitar (i.e. not just strumming chords) and don't tend to sing along?

If you love to strum open chords and sing along, Sweet and Tender Hooligan is immensely pleasing!

I think it's just what you like. I prefer Johnny's mellower, more melodic stuff like "Please Please Please..." and "I Know It's Over". I just don't care for his rocking songs very much. For me, Morrissey makes those songs, whereas in songs like "Well I Wonder," it's equal part Johnny and Mozzer that make the song.

i gave this a 9 because it was once of the sonsg that i instantly liked. the line "she was old and she would've died anyway" is amazing. the whole song is quite amausing.
