A pleasant reminder of the days Our Man did stand-alone singles. Nice cover, as well. Where is The Grave Maurice, anyway? And why was he grave??

I really like "Sunny" but it's not a classic. Much better than anything off Southpaw Grammar though, of course. Still, this mid-period Morrissey doesn't say much to me about my life. I give it an 8.

Reminds me...see attached piccy from the Boxers viddy...

A quirky & catchy 8. This song is in my head when I wake up a lot of mornings...and not just cuz of "We're really missing you and you've only just gone" :p

Yes, that single was the highlight of the month, if not season during a drab year.

You are in London, and you don't know where the Grave Maurice is? It's on WhiteChapel a couple of doors east of the Whitechapel tube station, I believe. It's been turned into a nauseating modern disco-dolly type of joint.

I dunno why Maurice was grave. ;) Maybe because he is dead? I like how many English pubs are named after gruesomely deposed/disposed kings. The link above has a possible explanation for Grave Maurice -- Cockernee English mispelled Graf Maurice (graf = some kind of noble title such as Earl).

One of my favorites. It might not seem like one of his most important songs, but it's a favorite I never get tired of. 10

this song still makes me cry. it's a 10 imho.

10. Absolutely wonderful song. And every time I listen to it, I find something new, for example an emotion in Morrissey's voice or something in the music, that I hadn't noticed before.

A truly great lost single.
If only he could produce a heartfelt lyric like this these days, we'd all be so much happier.

Quite right Mr de Witt. It is indeed a lovely lyric, and a really nice jangly piece of music. One of the very few solo songs (possibly the only one) performed live on British TV (Later with Holland) before it was released.

I wonder though when it was recorded. I've got a feeling it was pre-Southpaw but, for some strange reason, was released a few months after...

Sadly Grave Maurice was bought by a pub chain, still serves drinks, but no longer called Grave Maurice.

It's now a different place or it's totally closed. Least it looked closed when I went past there a few wks ago. The Grave Maurice signs are still up. Looked empty inside.

Thank you very much for the updated information.

No problem. Of course I was there at like 10:30 am, the people selling stuff from the tents were giving me odd looks as I looked in the windows. Was a bit creppy, took a few pics of the place and left.

Btw I voted this song an 8.

a 10

one of me personal favourites, along with Boxers the best he did in 1995.

the song is about his drug friend Jake Walters [ and not about Sunny Liston] who were already parted at that time, cause of Jake's drugabuse

I'm here and I wont move

I wonder though when it was recorded. I've got a feeling it was pre-Southpaw but, for some strange reason, was released a few months after...

It was recorded during the Boxers-sessions, and was initially planned as the 4th song on the Boxers EP, but they felt it was good enough to stand as a single on its own.
Quite rightly, although the British public didn't agree as this is one of the very few Moz-singles that didn't make the UK Top 40...

Voted this a solid 8 -- I'm glad it's rating so highly (I though the average would be around 7).

It's a strong track with good guitar and a heartfelt lyric. Like Alain's backing vocals.

And despite the criticisms of many, I like the video!
