The only line better than some girls are bigger than others is --yes-- some girls mothers are bigger than other girls mothers. Wish there were a few more lyrics in it but it's fun and I love it.

A song that either brings a tear to my eye, or causes me to collapse into howls of laughter, depending on my mood.

With those lyrics put to that guitar, it's a song that only the Smiths could have written. And for that, I can't give it any less than a 10.

12.

I fifth and sixth all that was said.
As he starts singing,
"From the ice-age to the dole-age
there is but one concern
I have just discovered..."
there's no way back!

I don't understand how anybody could not adore this song completely.
no one could pull anything close to this song off except for The Smiths and that makes it even more amazing! :D

a 7

never much liked it as a song on the Queen is Dead, but live it sounds[ed]
much better.
Musicly it's good, I like Johnny guitar sound, and the Rhythm Twins show
that they're not replacable/session musicans, but Mike Joyce and Andy
Rourke of the f****** Smiths.

I like the live version where Morrissey puts an extra verse into it

on the shopfloor, this calender
as obvious as snow
as if we didn't know

wished he done that on the studio album, cause the lyrics are poor
and dull, but on the other hand it's only Morrissey who can come up
with sucha song and get away wit it

afterall i maybe should've given it an 8, but can't change it anymore

Brilliant, I'm totally in love with this song. I just love how seriously and mournfully Morrissey sings it... so good! Although I've only ever received strange looks from other people when I've tried to get them to appreciate it as much as I do... can't think why :D

I like it -catchy tune, easy to remember the lyrics and well, so true. Gave it an 8.

1000000

One of the very best, if not the best.
The guitar makes me cry and the lyrics fit the song. The live version is better than the studio one.

and these lines:
send me the pillow, the one that you sleep on
and I'll send you mine

One of his best quotes.

I always feel so bad for Johnny Marr when I listen to this song. Here he came up with one of his greatest compositions and Morrissey ruined it with silly sub-par lyrics. The live version is especially wonderful - I can't get enough of Johnny's solo intro. But damn you, Morrissey - why did you have to f*** it up????? An 8, for the music only.

a four. I don't get all the fuss about this song at all.

1000!

My favourite song of all time... brilliant music (hear Johnny live on this one!) & brilliant lyrics.

Sheer perfection.

Edit: Radio Berlin, you have the worst taste of all time... go & find another neglected Moz B-side to give 10 to.

Well, great that it was played awfully many times live. I don't think it's enough to judge the sound of it. Good memories for those who were lucky to hear it, but nothing more.

I never saw the Smiths live, the only gig in 1984 was a sorta members
only party from a magazine called 'Vinyl'... I mean it was not advertised
in Dutch papers/magazines, so basicly if yer reading that Vinyl magazine
you could get tickets. [it was their 5 year anniversary party in 'de Meervaart' in Amsterdam] plus I live way down south in the Netherlands,
so we were ill informed about what's going on in Amsterdam

as for the live song, it's on many bootlegs, so thats why I said I liked
it more than the studio album
