Just judging by the first few votes this song will be what I expected, either love it or hate it.

I was about to give it a 6 but jumped to 7 just because it has a happening beat.

Boot the grime of this world in the crotch, dear
And don't go home tonight

Precisely!

10 from me. Plus 1 for "I'm a boy/girl" lines.
Not the most subtle or highbrow song, but it's fun.
And it's easy to be generous for Smiths.

The lyrics are fun, but the music and the melody are lazy. Musically, it sounds like so many other songs from this same era: "Is It Really So Strange?," "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish," etc. Very dull - Johnny running on auto-pilot (and almost out of gas too). This song is only saved by Morrissey's entertaining gender-bending lyrics. For that alone, I give it a 7.

It's a 10 for the chorus alone.

LA LA LA LAALA LA LA LAAA

Yes, the music is not very inspired but the lyrics are fun, plus his dancing at TOTP. Excellent.

8 :D
it isn't one of my very very favourite smiths songs but
it is one of the first ones i heard. and i of course was won by the gender 'bending' near the end!, haha.

an 8

what a nice funny upbeat song this is, nothing bad I can write about it,
it's above average, a perfect Smiths single, but not that good that it
can rank between the Smiths classics

I love the girrl /boy switch in the lyrics at the end

Not a favourite but even then it's still good.

I gave it a 7 for the lyrics and 20 out of 10 for Morrissey's moves on TOTP - f***ing brilliant!! Go Moz! :D

a favorite from Louder Than Bombs. 10.

is it wrong not to always be glad?

I always thought Sheila was the same girl from "What She Said".

I absolutely love Sheila!
It's just so ... stompy:)
Such a great upbeat vibe; easily the best Smiths song for the Saturday night indie disco!
It’s got one of those brilliant Morrissey lyrics where he asks a profound question and then provides a simple answer. Is it wrong not to always be glad? No it’s not wrong but I must add!
Surprised it's not getting top marks. So much better than the over-rated Smiths cliché pop of Panic, Heaven Knows I’m Miserable now etc...

Not bad but nowhere near the best. 7/10.

Somehow I always think this song is boring when I think about it but it never is when I listen to it:rolleyes:.

You prompted me to check the other examples. I somehow didn't like it much in the beginning, but now I find it interesting. Is it wrong to change your mind? No, it's not wrong...
