Meh. Distinctly average, verging on poor. A 5 from me.

worst song on the album, IMO:(
Agreed. Esp the first opening lines..."A working class face glares back at me from the glass and lurches oh..." his voice is up and down and so not in tune with the melody. Something is just off there. Then he disses Pittsburgh which is very odd  I'm not from there but I'd be pissed about it if I were :D

SUPAHSTAR!
LAME. i hate the pittsburgh line. i dont really like pittsburgh, but its a dumb line. i honestly dont even remember how this song goes to be honest. completely unmemorable. 3

Doing Very Well
5 from me. A couple of clever lyrics ("Turned sickness in to un/popular song") but those aren't even that clever, relative to how clever his lyrics can be. I'd agree this is the worst track on ROTT.

I think the lyrics are really, really clever. At first sight, you can take the title as "I Ran On The Streets", but I read it as "The Streets I Ran", or "I Ran The Streets", and it's a song from a modest youth who grew up in Manchester, and became such an icon that he became a symbol of the city, so much so that he in effect "ran the streets". To me, the whole song is about his growing up in Manchester, and eventually being the boss of the streets. As usual with Morrissey, he wraps the song up very clever wordplay and double-meaning.

Yes, jenipher--great line "Turned sickness in to un/popular song". Those are the same songs that have saved my life =o) I decided to have a listen to the song 'in the moment' cuz I really do like the music (moreso than the lyrics). I watched it and fell hard for him all over again*sigh* and THIS got me SO excited to see him again!!

Between the great recording & closeups of this, the music, the opening lights, MORRISSEY (mostly!), the energy, and a nice post from Uncle Skinny :) --I have to kick up my rating to a 5.5 now. Moz has that kind of power over me :D Check out the link & u will c. Another look, and I may go to 6 :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMbJdHEcCAY

I love it right around 2:10 he sings THAT line with the lovely Matt Walker behind him. Drummer Love!! Singer Lust!! Double HOT!

Under the floor boards bonus =o)

Nothing of this man's music truly sucks, does it.

Fat Children Took My Life
I wouldn't say it was neccesarily the worst song on the album; it does feel out of place though. I'd rank it alongside "Father" and "Boy Happy" in terms of quality (average, relative to the album). The lyrics are not bad and the music is actually quite good, but overall it's nothing special. A 6.

I've never thought about it that way before, a very clever analysis.

are you serious? so it ranks up there with Everyday is like Sunday, and Now My Heart is Full and There is a Light??? cmon Kui, cmon!!! haha. *smacks* :p
Yes, it does. Everyone's rating is just a personal opinion, but yes, I do rank it up there. It's just as classic to me as those songs are. I probably prefer it to There is a Light, but not Everyday or Now My Heart is Full. I think There is a Light is still a 10 and deservedly so I'm not just gonna go along with peer pressure when I vote for it, lol, but maybe like the lowest 10 because it is a little overrated by comparison to other songs, such as, On the Streets! :p

I think it's a brilliant song and the unconventional melody is perfect for the lyrics enhancing the general feeling of desperation and paranoia. It's also very funny at the end when he's desperately wishing death on everyone but himself. :D

How about "take Boz, Matt, Gary, Jesse, Mike - just spare me"?
