While it turned fans to vegetarians, it turned me into a fan.
Yes, I do vote for the message. And I vote for the live performance, because it made me believe him, trust him as an artist.
And I find the song good as such.

As with Maggie on the Guillotine, this is a song whose sentiment is wonderful, but whose execution is clunky and dull. Like so many others, this song inspired me to become a vegetarian, and for that reason it is an extremely important song, but the music is a dirge, the slaughterhouse and cow sound effects are ridiculous, and the melody is boring. Easily the weakest song on Meat Is Murder. I give it a 6.

10. Why? Because it's one of the most important songs in the world. It opened my eyes. Good melody also.

I gave the song a 9. I can't pinpoint what about the song that I really like, but I really like it. As many think the slaughterhouse and cow sound efffects take away from the song, I think they paint the picture very clearly. Whenever I listen to Meat is Murder I play it on random, in hopes that it will pop up before the last track. I think the extremely dramatic lyrics in this song are perfect.

I didn't my dear.

Not perfect, but from my fav smiths LP. It's a bit simplistic in it's lyrics, but that's why it's so effective as a 'protest' song for vegetarianism.

Hideous trait.
It's a bit heavy-handed, but who can blame him for that? Inspired my initial conversion to vegetarianism, many years ago. I gave it an 8, because it's so thoroughly Moz at his sweetest and most earnest and heartfelt.

Probably my least favourite song across both his solo & Smiths catalogues.

This would probably be my favourite album if not for this dreadful closer.
Why spoil such a brilliant album Moz? Why spoil it? :(
