Do you remember a band called THE HOUSE OF LOVE!!!!

"Did you read that the Beatles were more popular than Christ..."
- Unknown reporter
"You know we always enjoyed performing, it was sort of our buzz, and then I
always, I always felt that Beatles sort of did it, you know, when they were
big, they did it..."
- Mick Jagger
"...been proved by what's going on in the States, and the protest marches in
Grosvenor square in London. The only result of that was, a lot of smashed
heads..."
- John Lennon
Look at him shouting out
Loud as thunder out at sea
He wants a bomb
So do we
A bomb from the sky
Is the perfect crime
Shoulder on shoulder and heat
The Beatles and the Stones
Sucked the marrow out of bone
Put the V in Vietnam
The Beatles and the Stones
Made it good to be alone
To be alone
Look at me, proud of being
Proud of being seventeen
Locking in the pocket a smile
Soft from the school
Cut by the rule
Oh I'm dazed and I'm dazed and I'm dazed
The Beatles and the Stones
Sucked the marrow out of bone
Put the V in Vietnam
The Beatles and the Stones
Made it good to be alone
To be alone
The Beatles and the Stones
Sucked the marrow out of bone
Put the V in Vietnam
The Beatles and the Stones
Made it good to be alone
To be alone
To be alone
To be alone
(Alone, alone, alone, alone, alone)
To be alone...

No I don't remember those homos. But what the f*** is up with that long ass tag in your post. I had to sift through all that garbage to get to the meaning of your f***in post.

Christine

Christine - Still walking at me
Still talking at me
Christine - Such a sense of loss
and the baby cried
Christine
Christine

And the whole world dragged us down
The whole world turned aside

Christine - You're in deep, pristine
- With a god-like glow
Christine - Christine - Heart and the glory and me
Chaos and the big sea

Christine - Still walking at me
Still talking at me
Christine
Christine
Christine

And the whole world dragged us down
Not a sonnet not a sound
And the whole world turned aside
The cruelest hand just turned an eye

I wouldn't say the House Of Love were an obscure band. Certainly not in the U.K were they were seen by many to be the natutal heirs to The Smiths throne.

I think they were a criminally overlooked band.Their debut album "The House Of Love" was a superb album and 1990's "Fontana" gave them a Top 10 UK album and shifted a healthy 400,000 copies on the Creation label.

The mainstays of the band were Guy Chadwick and Terry Bickers and they had,at best,a tempestuous relationship.

When the band split Chadiwck formed the short lived The Maddonas and rumours abounded that his creativity was hampered somewhat by an ongoing alcohol battle.

He emerged from the shadows in the late 90's to deliver an acclaimed solo offering "Lazy, soft and slow" and I had the pleasure of talking to the man at an open air gig at Jesus Green in Cambridge not log after the albums release.

Since then very little has emerged.Chadwick was rumoured to be nearing completion of a 2nd solo album but in March this year he and Bickers were rumoured to have repaired their long running rift and were back writing songs.

Perhaps the story has moved on from here I am not sure.

There is a "Best of Collection" out there and also some Peel sessions but for me the 1st album was the highlight.

Re: The House Of Love

Dear Johnny:

Thank You. I posted the first comment in this thread. I bought the debut album on the strength of a couple songs that were played on alternative radio in Los Angeles. This was probably right around the time I purchased Viva Hate, and had either just gotten into Morrissey or was just about to. I had no idea, being here in the USA, that they were actually considered the potential heirs to the Smiths' Throne. I remember that first album it seems daily...and though the record collection of my youth is long gone, I should go pick up that first CD this week.

Thanks so much,

My mates band supported the House Of Love in a run down pub in backstreet docks near Gravesend.

A greatly missed band. Guy Chadwick was pretty talented.

Like someone said though 'hardly obscure!'

Ruffian

Try 'Airhead' and the essential work 'Boing' for fabulous memories..

You know me Bluenose. Just reaching the hand of friendship out to my follow Moz fans.

Heck I even posted a copy of the Joni Mitchell/Moz CD to a guy called David in LA last week.

You forget us Scots are famed for our generosity whilst you Brummies are famed for inflicting UB40 and The Wonderstuff on the world

Re: Just name dropping

I stood next to Guy Chadwick when I saw the Stone Roses before they were big. Now if only I could form a band we could make a sequel to 24 Hour Party People!

For me the best track the H.o.L ever did was 'Destroy the Heart'. They could never get a hit single with the word 'destroy' in it though. Am I allowed to say that G.C's lyrics 'sucked'. Phew, I think I got away with it.

Are you allowed to say it? Not without getting a kick in the arse.

The House of Love's lyrics did not "suck." They were okay, sometimes even pretty good. Compared to the Smiths, even the Beatles lyrics sucked.

Take care of yourself.

Who are you talking to, Johnny?

I'm further up the thread.

Poor wee senile old man

Etch-A-Sketch?? Was that the Christmas board game with Rolf Harris's face on the front? I remember wanting that, but all I got was an apple and an orange and half-a-crown.

happy days

That wasn't an Etch-A-Sketch Pat but I know what you mean. It was a silver screen and you turned two knobs(oh err) and made horizontal and vertical lines and if you twiddled both at once (fnarr fnarr) you could do squiggly lines.

Ask Bluenose...she still has one.
