How about we have a thread to discuss our ailments......
It helps sometimes to get things off your chest...

    I'll go first.
Last year I pulled a muscle in my leg. From January this year
my knee has filled up with fluid. The pain has been so bad I can
hardly walk. I am going to a Rheumatologist today to get it
    looked at.
I'm told I'm lucky that I'm not overweight and that I don't smoke
anymore. I'm hoping this specialist will drain some fluid and explain
to me what is wrong with the knee and if it will ever be the same
    again.
The thing that irks me also is I can no longer do yoga.....

Is the fluid related to the pulled muscle? I didn't know that could happen!

Ever since I had a slight concussion the other week I cannot smell properly, by which I mean accurately. It's like my brain is substituting other strong smells for the correct ones. The person at the next desk is eating a Big Mac, but it smells just like those cans of Friskies' Sea Captain's Choice that my cats eat. My diet coke smells like cherries. Roses smell like apples. Gasoline smells like nail polish remover (the pink kind). Other things, too. Am I dying?

I've had a long term problem with my back. Its lasted about 5 years. Last year it got so bad that it affected other areas - testicle being the most worrying. Also in my lower leg I got muscle spasms. I was so worried that it was testicular cancer or something. Anyway, I had to spend a week in hospital just before last christmas. I remember my dad having to take me to hospital as I was in so much chronic pain. I nearly passed out in the waiting room it was so bad. They then put me on morphine. Next thing I remember is the doctors being dumfounded by my twitching lower back leg. I was so scared. I thought I was on the way out. I was given morphine when I was in hospital, but it didn't really help. I remember feeling sick with pain a lot of the time. In the end they took me to the operating theatre and put 4 injections into my spine. I had to be awake for the procedure as I had to tell them how it felt. It was the most painful thing in the world, but hopefully I'm through the worst of it now. I still get the muscle spasms. I just have to live with them, I suppose. They're at their most painful when they reach the bones in my foot. I'm kind of used to them now though.

 That sounds awful! Muscles and nerves are so weird when they start having a mind of their own.

Hey Black Cloud, you could have this. It doesn't say anything about a remedy so it looks like you'll be filling up your car with pink nail polish remover until you get to the doctor. :p

did they do a mrt/ct?do you do physiotherapy?
    i have back issues too.
it began in november- major pain in my back which did affect the leg..but the pain in the leg (inner thig-hright leg)had nothing to do with sth wrong in the leg but comes from irritated nerves, msucular dysbalances a deferctive spine positon and abrasions in the spine and is emissive to the leg,..the leg pain was so strong i couldnt walk one some days .not to forget the back pain.ive done physiotherapy for 6 months )as thenow..the leg pains stopped in march, came back in may for a short time, got away again. and the back got slowly better too. i didnt have to take the super strong painkillers anymore, the positive thing is that i know have mucles developed(stomach) which steadies my back with it...a long process...it still isnt excellent and i will have to take care of it all my life..
oh no - the relapse came fast after i wrote that - a iiliosacral joint blocade again(in german isg- blocade) the orthopaedic did make a reposition(is that the correct english word for it?) and according to him it should be better soon....which i hope
i also protect the back when i stand up or the bus going into a bend i tense my stomach muscles which steadies the back on an everyday basis.
for pain attacks i would suggest a infra red lamp...
a good bed is good too..and also the slatted frame. i have a slatted frame where one can adjust the single latch for the shoulder zone the waist zone etc. this frame can also often adjust a matress which isnt so good, important it shouldnt be a frame who you cannot lift in the front or back (you know which older pople often have or in hospitals as the that buckeld position isnt good for the back.

the mattress also should idally have a certainvolume weight (up to 50/55 VW its good-this is the numbers which they work in germany i dont know which one you use in the UK/US) and certain(16-18 centimeter com) highness..and a certain firmness .
which has to so with your build and weight
a good seller test how you lay correct on the matress (not buckled, but straight as in the lower pic. and adjust the frame
i have a problem though to adjust to the special neck pillow and will return to the normal pillow i think...
i have still come to terms with the bed and the sink in in the shoulderzone as before i did lay without a slatted frame with a cheap mattress on the floor.
there are also books out there who shows some gymnastic exercises

Will be getting the test results whe I go back tomorrow. On Monday they took some fluid out, gave me a cortisone injection and told me to go home and not
to walk until today. Tomorrow I have to go back and see what the results are. The cortisone killed the pain totally. But I was warned to be careful because it just kills the pain signal to the brain, so I need to still not move about too much. Hey your problem is really quite bizarre. What does your doctor say about it? I wonder if it will go away in time......

Has this all affected your ability to work or do you have to be on disability pension? I hope you can get some help. Have you tried alternative medicine and/or meditation? Sorry, I know pain is bloody hell and makes it hard to think and function normally. Can make you really emotional and muddleheaded. This problem I have with my leg is the first real physical ailment I've had in my life. Your problem is much worse though. I hope you can get some help. Good luck.:)
