The Impossibility Of Choice In The Mind Of A Fan - your Best of Morrissey compilation?

Hello.

If push came to shove, came to...(well, let's not go there eh?)...what would you choose as your favourite Morrissey solo tracks for your own personal Best Of compilation?

Only caveat is it needs to be one hour long, max. Don't ask, it just does.

Here's my rough and ready stab at it -a selection chosen to represent a sweep of stuff. Clocks in at 57 mins.

01. Suedehead
02. Billy Budd
03. All You Need Is Me
04. Ammunition
05. Angel, Angel, Down We Go Together
06. Istanbul
07. Glamorous Glue
08. It's Not Your Birthday Anymore
09. The Last Of The Famous International Playboys
10. Late Night, Maudlin Street
11. Irish Blood, English Heart
12. Seasick, Yet Still Docked
13. Speedway
14. You Were Good In Your Time

The album, "World Peace..." plus the song "Scandinavia" - a 59 minute deserted island compilation

Now this is a thread I like. It is an impossible task as you say, but I did try to represent every era (sorry Kill Uncle). There are probably too many ballads to be a truly representative selection, but I came up with...

I Know Very Well How I Got My Name 2:03
Speedway 4:30
Trouble Loves Me 4:39
Everyday Is Like Sunday 3:36
Nobody Loves Us 4:50
I'm Not a Man 7:49
Jack The Ripper 4:11
Come Back To Camden 4:15
Life Is A Pigsty 7:23
Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself 3:20
It's Not Your Birthday Anymore 5:10
Tomorrow 4:06
Lost 3:54

60 mins

15. Istanbul 4:40

Total Length- 01:00:03 (Come on, I can have an extra three seconds)

impossible. id have instant regret the second i chose. thered be the songs about external subjects and story telling, these types of morrissey songs i like the most, then thered be the more self obsessed songs where he sings or at least appears to sing about himself like trouble loves me (great songs but sometimes i think these songs help me fluff up my ego to much as i sometimes try and relate them to myself as if im ready with ready wit and the talked talked about figure that id sometimes like to see myself as) and then of course theres the funny songs like please help the cause against loneliness or disappointed. then of course theres the beautiful melodies that could change anything at any time be it an aggressive song (for morrissey) like satan rejected my soul and tomorrow or the flip side of those songs like ambitious outsiders. to hard, much to hard

As we've seen with previous Morrissey "best of"s it's hard to do his entire career justice if you limit it to like 15 songs.

I think ideally you'd go with a career spanning 25ish+ track album. But! Four our purposes I will do my best...

1. You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side (3:38)
2. Alma Matters (4:48)
3. Irish Blood, English Heart (2:37)
4. Suedehead (3:54)
5. The Last of the Famous International Playboys (3:37)
6. Staircase At the University (5:30)
7. Tomorrow (4:17)
8. My Love Life (4:24)
9. The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get (3:43)
10. Now My Heart Is Full (4:58)
11. First of the Gang To Die (3:38)
12. Istanbul (4:40)
13. Everyday Is Like Sunday (3:33)
14. Lost (3:54)
15. Late Night, Maudlin Street (7:40)

It's a bit over but that's my best offering.

that was damn near impossible to do Agharta  I think I hate you now ;)
but I made it through it anyways, so here is a list like you asked for:
m60_zps14125062.png

I can't be bothered adding up the timings

Will Never Marry
Sister I'm A Poet
Shame Is The Name
My Dearest Love
The Loop
I've Changed My Plea To Guilty
Sunny

Last of the Famous International Playboys

Hello.

I somehow missed the hour long rule part.

OK so to distill my picks into an hour's worth of Essential Morrissey I'd say
