Hnia was just trying to point out that nearly everything you do can have an ill effect on animals. Are you going to stop going to the movies or riding a bike or eating sugar? I have been a vegetarian for 11 years now and I have found out the hard way that being self-righteous is not the way to get your message out.I know because when I first became a vegetarian, I was so zealous and preachy that I alienated many of my friends and instead of turning them on to vegetarianism, I turned them off to the idea. I agree with you that there are many things that we can do to minimize suffering to animals but it is nearly impossibe to eliminate it. I believe that being a vegetarian is the best way to live. I also believe that the best way to promote vegetarianism is to let people know what positive effects vegetarianism can have on animals, health, and the environment. That way they can make up their minds for themselves. Some people will change, some won't. That has been my experience anyhow.
