That's How People Grow Up - Looks like it won't make the top ten

I think the HMV here were hiding it...took me an age to find it and it was hidden away in a corner. Gits.

But the concern is not about Moz failing to reach number 1.
It's about this song doing massively worse than his last two singles released before albums (Irish Blood, You Killed Me). They reached number 3, this will struggle to go top 20. Something has happened to give Moz considerable cause for concern. Right, I've got work to do. Will stop hogging this debate. Well, til lunchtime at least!

Lol have a good work session. This place takes my time up too, or, i take my time up with it.

But to continue the dabate with you, for when you get back at tea time -

Just cos this song may not do as well as the last singles still doesn't quite mean it isn't good. I mean, i think the song is average, but even if it was rubbish, i wouldn't judge it by its chart position, not solely anyhow. But you're probably right to an extent, as it does have some bearing on the song. I just strongly believe that chart position is meaning less and less these days.

Yes, come back after lunch lol.
I agree though it is a worry that it won't do well, cause we all know how he gets..
remember that email!*scared*

What was that email?

It’s a real indictment of a) how rubbish the song is and b) the impact of having no new songs on the b-sides.
This is the first Morrissey single I’ve not bothered buying since Boy Racer for these two reasons…

That you think the song is "rubbish" is your opinion, of course, not a fact. It's actually a great song, in my opinion. And, for me, The Boy Racer was a great song too.

I think no new b-sides on a single impacts only really on Morrissey fans buying it, not on casual buyers. Two CDs (with three new b-sides in total) effectively doubles Morrissey's sales, more or less.

Chart positions are more to do with marketing, than how "good" an actual song is. But Morrissey has always needed as much help as he can get to achieve a healthy chart position. As with That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore which only reached no.49, because of being taken from an album and only having live b-sides.

The fact that it only reached no.49 does not make it a "rubbish" song, of course.

I ordered my copies of the single & the album from Amazon.co.uk. Will these count towards chart positions seeing as I got them from the net?

I've just been out a bought all 3 versions to help!

I couldn't even get it in my local HMV-not because they'd sold out but because the'd not recieved it.:mad:Now that's not Morrissey's fault.I wasn't the only one there who wanted a copy either.:mad:i adore Morrissey but i am afraid every dog has its day.:tears:

I saw the advert for Morrissey's greatest hits, I'll buy that for the single. Chart positions reflect trends so don't expect anything above 15.

'Rubbish' may be a little harsh but the joy of the Houdini poll is that we can now assess Morrissey's songs in a fairly objective way.
THPGU has scored quite badly. Out of Morrissey's 30-40 or so singles, it's in the bottom half, probably the bottom quarter so, by his standards, it's a pretty poor song. None of the Smiths singles (and very few of their songs) will have scored as badly.

Well, let's see!

The point I was also making is that singles like Ouija Board, Ouija Board were totally derided at the time and did badly... but now I think most people can appreciate it as an amusing little ditty that was never going to change the world. While even classics like How Soon Is Now and Bigmouth did nothing much in the charts.

ok I dont see the sense in this, you are making the point you could not get the single, then you are saying every dog has his day? what?
I have said from the start if its not in the shops then many people won't get it, its clearly a disaster.

I'm sorry but I refuse to accept that just because a song did well in a popularity contest it means that it's any better than another song.

I don't like this single myself but no poll is going to "prove" to me that it's crap. I'll use my own ears.

Now that you know where they hoard them, why don't you do what one poster does every time she sees Mozzer's new single in the record shops? Put his new single in the slots for the top 5. :D

lol the poll was just to "prove" the general consensus not to tell you you should like a song. I love East West and look how crappy it did. I still love it.

What a frikin top idea !!! I don't know if i have the balls thought! :o

Actually, I was gonna mention that, if you don't actuall fancy Moz, the CD sleeve is actually pretty off-putting!
I walked into HMV yesterday half thinking oif buying the single but the sleeve (plus other reasons previously mentioned) resulted in my not buying it...

Really? The sleeve of the record put you off THAT much?? I think that's kinda sad to be honest with you. Why did the sleeve bother you so much? A chap in his pants? Nothing wrong with that, if you got it flaunt it!

I think Morrissey is a splendid looking fellow and certainly, if I looked that good, I'd probably put a sleeve out like that! But even if it was a picture of him creasoting a fence wearing a Liverpool shirt (*shudders at the Red Scum*) and cuddling Johnny Borrell I'd still buy it.

It'd be a real shame if it doesn't chart highly but if it doesn't then it will reiterate my strong feeling that All You Need Is Me should've been the single - best pop song he's done since First Of The Gang in my opinion.

It doesn't help when i can't find it anywhere in town.....

Same here... *sighs*

I would've liked to buy it, but like many others, it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to.
My HMV have NO singles...Woolworths just have about 6 different singles (non of then Moz). What happened to the days of lines and lines of all the new singles? ahh feck
If they don't get the greatest hits in store for next week, i'll stage a one-woman riot :guitar:

Now that you know where they hoard them, why don't you do what one poster does every time she sees Mozzer's new single in the record shops? Put his new single in the slots for the top 5. :D

God, I am sooooo going to do that with the greatest hits. :D (if its bloody in store).

lol DOM! DOM! DOM! hehehe you can do it, since my crappy woolies has not got the track in I can't so come on man its for the good of MOZ! get out there and sort it out. :p

lol, ok. I'll see what i can do :D :)
