you would think they would learn from boy happy, that was so badly handled with bugger all cds in the shops. They need to sort the marketing out, its not fair, the one bloody song thats getting airplay, that people who do not really know Morrissey much have said to me, oh I saw that on J R or heard it on the radio, its good. Such a missed oppertunity!

It’s a real indictment of a) how rubbish the song is and b) the impact of having no new songs on the b-sides.
This is the first Morrissey single I’ve not bothered buying since Boy Racer for these two reasons…

just to add. the worst implication for Moz will be that Radio 2 might reconsider playing his stuff so much.
and he may also feel that the NME immigration furoré has cost him a lot of fans...

Just cos a song doesnt make it to the top of the charts it doesn't mean the song is rubbish. Let's think of some previous number ones, um..

Tellitubies say eh oh, Bob the builder, the crazy frog, Mr Blobby...

Yea, they got to number one. They must be great songs.

Did you not want to buy it for the lovely photo on the front? :p I think as Morrissey fans we are spolied, many other "artists" stick 5 shitty remixes on the cds and no new tracks.
I strongly feel that it should be in the flipping shops, how can people get it, ok, I got my 2 set off the internet. Did we have a discussion already in the past if these count towards chart positons?
Oh its so bloody annoying. I have had like I have said before a few people mention the track and say they like it, non fans. I think this really could have been one to get non fans to buy it.

lol yes.. fair point. :D I won't repeat myself oh ok I am going to, if there is not a decent amount in the shops then people don't get the cd. I had this very problem with boy happy. I ordered from HMV which were so crap they did not come through with the order, I then had to get my vinyl from ebay and my cd ages later from a very kind person here on solo, so in the end all was ok but I like to properly get them myself. I have read a few comments on this board about how people have not been able to get their cd in their town. That is bad!

I think you're jumping to conclusions here.
Let's first wait how many copies this shifts.
If this song makes top-20 it will have to sell around 10,000.

ROTT-singles all sold 8000-10,000, except YHKM which sold 20,000 on the benefit of being the 1st single of an eagerly awaited album. And 2 versions, mind.

Unlike the indie snobs, Moz is obsessed with chart positions and rightly so. When his songs fail to do well, record companies lose interest as happened in the mid/late 90’s leaving him in the wilderness for years.
Moz will be particularly worried if this single misses the top 20 as he’s been touring in the run up to its release and it’s had fairly good airplay. Hopefully, he’ll realise that the song simply isn’t good enough. Thankfully for him, his other new songs are being much better received. But he’ll also be worried about the long term damage done to him by the NME furoré…

Yeap. I remember that was quite a trend in the 90's i was growing up in. The singles i bought such as Eminem and Britney Spears (sorry, i am a bit partial to pop) Never had any live stuf or B-Sides. SO much eaier to run a song through the computor software, take out the backing track and whack in some other beat.

Absaloutely. Nothing like going out to buy your own copy. My HMV are too anal to even stock vinyls. Young up and hip dick wits!

Actually, I was gonna mention that, if you don't actuall fancy Moz, the CD sleeve is actually pretty off-putting!
I walked into HMV yesterday half thinking oif buying the single but the sleeve (plus other reasons previously mentioned) resulted in my not buying it...

But, a song not getting to number one does NOT mean a song is good. In fact, these days it means the opposite. To get a number one you need a HELL of a lot of people on board, not JUST the fans. People are suckered into drivel and BULL poo stuff like bloody TELIBUIES. It got to number one!! Why, not cos it was good, but cos millionbs of people were somehow told it was.

Loads of other bands that are genuinly good have hardly ever had number ones, but they're still good!

I was the same, and the picture on the 7" is kind of freaky, that coupled with the fact that its in cardboard and not a plastic cover

But the concern is not about Moz failing to reach number 1.
It's about this song doing massively worse than his last two singles released before albums (Irish Blood, You Killed Me). They reached number 3, this will struggle to go top 20. Something has happened to give Moz considerable cause for concern. Right, I've got work to do. Will stop hogging this debate. Well, til lunchtime at least!

hmm interesting actually, I thought the covers were great but then I will buy it for the collection regardless of the cover. Interesting that this was a factor in you not buying it. Glad it was in your local shop though.

I think tellytubbies had the kiddie factor behind it :p big big business that.

again, funny to me. I love the cardboard cover, I love how it feels and looks and the fact that we again have a little cd like a vinyl is really quite cute. It just shows the different reasons people buy stuff. Interesting like I have said.

Yes, come back after lunch lol.
