Technical question nr2 - How soon is now live 1985

Here's a another one bugging me and seeing there is a "market" for such topics ...

As a musician, always wondered how did The Smiths do "How soon is now" on the 1985 tour? As heard on the "Same Day Again" bootleg, the slide part is played by - whom or what? There was no Craig Gannon at this point, and to my knowledge Mike Joyce never played along click, so I wonder how could they sync any sort of playback device.

I had hoped someone addresses this to Johnny on his current book tour...
