Tech help... What's wrong with my computer?

PregnantForTheLastTime

Hideous trait.
I can't get into Craigslist Chicago. Whether I click on a link to it, or type in the address directly, the browser just goes to the main Google page. I can access all other cities and areas of Craigslist, just nothing on the Chicago page. I'm using Chrome and I cleared my cookies.

Weird. Possible it's not your computer. Try it using a different browser like Internet Explorer, that'll give you more info about the nature of the problem (and might be a temporary workaround until the problem is fixed).

Is this the URL you're using?

http://chicago.craigslist.org

its either an issue you with your java or java script
one you might not have if you stop trying to go to an archaic place now like Craigslist, sorry

Yes, that's the URL. I tried using Explorer and that didn't work either, same result.

Thank you for being helpful, Jamescagney. ;)

So if neither worked, I think it's most likely not your computer but their web site or their DNS. Not much you can do in that case but wait for them to fix it.

(To try to really confirm this, you could try it from another computer or ask a friend in your city to try it, if that's convenient. If they can't get to it, you know it's not you. But if they CAN get to it, it's inconclusive, not proof either way.)

In the meantime, as a workaround, you can try using a free proxy server to reach the site, until they fix it. For example, go below, type in your URL into the grey URL field, then press Enter or click the "Hide My Ass" button:

http://www.hidemyass.com

Aw, jamescagney, you went above and beyond. You too, snowfallsoon. Thank you both.

It mysteriously began working again. But I now have the latest browser, Java, and Flash updates. :D

I'm going to check out the link you posted, snowfallsoon. I bet it will explain why my Facebook link sometimes leads me to random myspace pages.

No problem!

I believe that web page mainly describes when your Internet is totally down, rather than one page redirecting elsewhere.
