I cannot answer question A without googling it, but to answer question B, since the horse isn't a Pegasus having no wings, I'm assuming it makes sense to have a cape so it can fly since capes help one fly. I think. Racehorses wear them all the time and they fly.

I knew Krypto, but I did not know Superman had a cat. or a mermaid...
The horse is Superhorse. That's kind of disappointing.

I'm kinda digging that last cartoon. I was little surprised about the mermaid as well, but more surprised Superman had a midget who floats in clouds.
