Strange/unexpected Moz references?

Just been watching the Chelsea flower show on BBC2 and they were talking about a flower and the presenter said "this one is called Johnny Marr after the rock guitarist of The Smiths"

Watching the Stewart Lee vehicle thing now... word for f***ing word the same thing he did on tour. Pathetic to be honest. How dare Ge mock the weak when his comedy vehicle has no difference from his live show? That's what happens when you marry comedy groupies... zzz

Nonsense.

The show has only aired now (the vast bulk) of the tour is finished. There's only a problem if it's the other way round.

The tour was to dry-run the material for the show.

Completely different to Mock The Week comics going on tour and repeating the same old gags as on tele.

I watched Newsnight for the first time the other week. It ended with Jeremy Paxman happily introducing 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' over some footage of Manchester for the closing credits.

And I have to say, I think Stewart Lee is brilliant. - "Morrissey's let himself go".

Probably nothing to do with Morrissey, but I'm reading "The Winds of Dune" by Herbert and Anderson, and there's a phrase "a bone-jarring shriek of maladjusted engines." Don't think I've ever seen that word used before outside the album.

In the finale of this year's Germany's Next Topmodel season a cover version of "Asleep" was played. Here. I don't know if you can watch this from outside Germany, though.

Probably due to the song being used in "Sucker Punch" which features an Australian model as the lead actress. Just a guess.

Harsh, he made it clear on his tour last summer that he was trying out material for his TV series.

I was harsh, show I saw had been postponed so was after the tv show had been recorded but for 25 quid and the benefit of hindsight I would have expected at least one improvised sentence or facial expression.

However the sketch with Alan Moore ref Churchill was a pig was brilliant.

As for unexpected Moz references he was mentioned in Mayo and Kermodes film review show on 5live yesterday from the Salford media centre but due to the content of the show, namely film scores played live by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, I forgot it. Available on I player

Morrissey is considered by BBC Anglophenia blog to be one of five great British Gentlemen, in a whimsical piece compiled by Fraser McAlpine:

The British Gentleman Singer is a unique beast. Part peacock, part librarian, he exists in a strange world where being the beefiest, brawniest man in the room won’t necessarily get you all the girls. What you need is wit, sensitivity, good articulation and a tingling sense that it might just be the girls that you’re interested in.

So, in tribute to Bryan Ferry getting his CBE over the weekend, here are five of the best.

He's fourth down.

Stewart Lee was mentioned a few posts ago; I saw him a few weeks ago, and the brilliant Armando Ianucci did a warm up beforehand, and introduced Lee on to the stage with a quote from the Guardian that he "looks like Morrissey, if Morrissey ate lots of beef" :D.

when moz was on glastonbury on friday there was a tv show on the other channel at the same time which as his old fave victoria wood and on of the sky channels they showed one of his faves to sir with do remember when morrissey played in edinburgh 08 they showed killin of sister george and there was a mor murderer article at the time when he was in london for roundhouse.
a german tv presnter-for the wEATHER-pretty plain lookking(during the court they reported his numerous girlfriends- he has he all called bz the same nickname-always surprised what an effect it can have being on tv for "pulling girls") who has been accused of rape and was put into court cause of it,mentions moz in connection to court cases http://www.zeit.de/2011/24/DOS-Interview-Kachelmann/seite-2

Just watching David Walliams new TV panel game show where he has a 'wall' with 25 celebs on. I have just noticed that there is a pic of Moz on there. Maybe he will feature in a question in the second half.

I was trying on some jeans in one of those retro shops in Leeds today, the one opposite The Duncan pub.The fitting room walls are covered in old 45s.

The one staring me in the face, and the first one I looked at was "Youre Such a Good Looking Woman" by Joe Dolan

I found this book of poetry by Jeremy Reed in Oxfam.
It is a load of poems about music stars and bands, published in 1994.
It has, as you can see, Morrisseys current cover-star on the cover.
Anyway, this is the poem about Morrissey.

Morrissey

Moribund, and morosity
is like an empty grey building,
the windows punched out on the sky,
the aerosoled pink graffiti

proclaiming a dead Weltanschauung.
Holed up at Manchester's Midland,
the man entertains his mystique.
It's like a vulture sitting in his hand

quizzing his eyes and waiting for the kill.
It keeps him celibate. A friend
is someone who walks out of a mirror
on dark days when a taxi calls

delivering a heart-shaped box
not to be opened right until the end...
Inside is a portrait of Oscar Wilde
or a bullet noosed in a red ribbon?

Pop music is his addiction,
without it he'd disorbit, decibels
are supernovas in his brain.
Outside, it's a thin fuzzy rain

turns everything to sepia;
the street's a 19th-century photograph.
He riffles through old 45s,
a vinyl fetishist for whom the past

elicits meaning. He sips at cold tea.
A sixties song resuscitates his mood.
He embraces his vision. It's the blue
of old forgotten films, of solitude.
