Strange/unexpected Moz references?

Re: Morrissey No.7 in greatest frontman of all time

"Watchdog" on BBC One just had about 5 Smiths references in 2 minutes. "Panic" playing in the background of a clip about rogue tradesmen(?), followed by one of the presenters saying "Meet the Smiths [...] heaven knows, they're miserable now".

And now they're playing "How Soon Is Now?" in the background, quoting lyrics from Rusholme Ruffians, and reminding viewers that the 'Smiths' they refer to are a building company and "not the 80s guitar giants, despite the music". Someone behind this programme must be a major fan!

Playing "Boy With the Thorn..." now.

Hahahaha! Someone must have dared him to do it, surely?! I can't think of any other band who have fans so obsessive that they drop references and song titles into conversation like clues in a crime drama, to see if the other persons "gets it". It's like some sort of Masonic brotherhood.

David Icke Forums looking for reasons to like Morrissey!

I have said elsewhere on the forum that I don't 'get' Morrissey. However, I realise that I must be missing something. I am very passionate about music, my tastes vary from classical to punk, rock, pop, new age, gothic and lots inbetween.

I am intrigued now by the passion that some on here have shown towards this bloke so your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to educate me on what make his music so great. Please give examples of what I should listen to and try not to write reams and reams in your explanations. I am happy to listen and learn, I might even come to like Morrissey (can't promise anything but I will try).

Anyone up for this challenge?

Re: David Icke Forums looking for reasons to like Morrissey!

Maybe if we tell him that Morrissey is a Jew-hating, humanoid-lizard hunting, paranoia-mongering charlatan, Icke will go out and buy every single record.

Re: David Icke Forums looking for reasons to like Morrissey!

A lot of people in my friendship circle are avid followers of David Icke (and other such conspiracy theorists), and they all seem to respect Morrissey for going against the grain of the "evils" of the music industry, whether they're fans of his music or not. Now that I think about it, I fell into my Morrissey spell during the exact same period I was obsessed with conspiracy theories.

I remember Icke when he was a sports commentator. Specialised in snooker as I recall.

And another from The Stool Pigeon

I know that place well, near Merrion Square Dublin and across from a statue of Oscar Wilde, the head-office of a nationwide estate agency.

But this one is monumental

Hasn't that been said plenty of times recently? Images may change for Asia.

Sure it's been said before, but the context is weird, with the story filed under "industry news" and treated strictly as an example of using personalized t-shirts. (Or maybe is Acorn the official supplier of personalized t-shirts for Morrissey's band?)

I Started Something... just on the Daily Politics as a backing to a feature about gaffes.
