Statement from Morrissey on True To You

1 May 2011

April 30 statement from Morrissey - true-to-you.net

I'm sorry I made the Detergent O Leary radio interview so difficult but I was in a foul mood, having spent a full week surrounded by the royal dreading. England may very well be a Windsor dictatorship, but - PR Weddings aside, it is usually quite bearable.
If my Front Row (Radio 4) interview sounded chopped and cropped, that's because it was. I had spoken fluently about the royal dreading, but an Iranian censorship confiscated all of my views. It is distressing, but in all manner of British media in 2011 we are only allowed to hear the same old thoughts and feelings expressed over and over and over again.
During the week of the royal dreading, Poly Styrene died. Having made an enormous contribution to British art and sound – at a desperate time when so many of us needed her, Poly Styrene's death was all but ignored by the British television news media, who instead rained hours and hours of blubbering praise onto Kate Middleton – a woman about whom nothing is known on a personal level. The message is clear: What you achieve in life means nothing compared to what you are born into. Is this Syria??
To top off all the pageantry, 'Very best of Morrissey' (EMI/Major Minor) has yet to tunnel its way into what we older types refer to as Record Shops – six days after intended release. The gallant HMV has yet to stock it, and did not manage to stock the 'Glamorous glue' single until four days after its scheduled release. In fact, the CD of 'Glamorous glue' did not EVER make it to HMV. With 'Very best of' I face my first ever non-chart placing – which I shall bear with dignity, although I could never be unkind enough to express my views on EMI's failings. It was John Lennon who coined the phrase 'Every Mistake Imaginable'. I shall not repeat it here.
I am delighted that the June dates sold out so quickly. Beware, we are looking at four more: Copenhagen, Aarhus, Helsingborg and Stockholm.
The follow-up to 'Years of refusal' is ready and fluttering wildly against the bars. There is still no record label and the years shuffle like cards. My talents do not lie in DIY.
I shall be in Perth – older, but no wiser.
With thanks to True To You,

Morrissey.

were all sheep me included, courting, flirting, go to work, day in day out, go on holiday once/twice a year, sit and watch tv at night, misic wise some of us have different music taste's etc. morrissey is very different, looks like difficult even, but it is that very thing that makes him what he his, he has never interviewed like a pop star or a politician, he has always found that role uncomfortable, he is however the finest lyric writer we will ever see, look around you, if you dont like certain aspects of mozz, stick to razorlight, or the next flash in the pan band, goodnight and thankyou

Well said.Although Im not a sheep

Morrissey has lost it. He's just a bitter, vile old queen.

I could rant on, but enough said.

Go, Moz! England will be able to live again without those circus-clown monarchs.

Morrissey achieved the near miraculous in making me ALMOST feel sorry for Dermot O'Dreary for a fleeting moment. I was glad my better half remembered Mozz was on as I normally turn into Father Jack and yell "not that gobsh!$* again" and throw a bottle at the radio as soon as O'Leary's jingle starts.

The interview was pretty excruciating and before they went to the first record old Stephen was possibly the most cantankerous I've ever heard him. Whatever Morrissey's true motives or mood, however, I still found it refreshing.

At his time of life, like most of his contemporaries, he should be at the unthreatening nostalgia exploiting stage: here's old Morrissey, look how mellow and cuddly he's become, shmoosing with Dermot and encouraging Radio 2 listeners to purchase his latest Best Of. Instead the old curmudgeon just can't help but bite at his promotional chains.

I for one would rather have his incongruous, awkward interview scenarios (I hold his One Show appearance as a classic) over the bland media game playing we are offered by most artists. He’s like a chilli pepper in the bland BBC mug of Horlicks.

I don't feel he needed to issue an apology for the interview. Dermot kept speaking over Morrissey, and if there's anything that drives me crazy, it's trying to listen to what someone is saying while the person who asked the question keeps talking! Dermot was rude and annoying. However, Morrissey did seem quite short, but we all have bad days and at least he acknowledged his foul mood (even though he really didn't need to). I'm elated to hear there's a new album, but it's very difficult to bear because...who knows when we'll get to hear it :( To a true Morrissey fan - that's torture!!

Perfectly said :)
I don't understand why people who claim they don't like Morrissey and say bad things about him come on this site.. Which is for Morrissey fans.. But still, I don't judge!

Yeah well if it's as pointless as those few words then thanks for stopping. I think you've done us a favor :)

No wonder he has quickly apologised for the interview he came across as a truly pathetic wanker. Even his apology is odious when he mentions sorrow at the death of Poly Styrene but goes on to say that the weeks bad news was topped off by his 57th best of album not getting into the shops or the charts.
He makes me feel ashamed and embarassed to have been a fan nowadays.

I'm not quite as irritated to that degree but I'm not far off. He came across appallingly and to expect us to believe it was partly because the news of the distinctly average Poly Styrene's death did not garner a two billion audience across the globe is as embarrassing as it is pathetic.

I would welcome an extended period of silence from this tedious whining imbecile. He's chipping away at his legacy every time he opens his mouth.

This is a grown Man in his 50's moaning about the Royal Wedding...A Man worth millions who stays in the best hotels in Rome,Paris,L.A etc....Why didn't He just f*** off for the week?? Blaming this for Him coming across as a bitter grumpy awkward interviewee is ridicolus. We have seen Moz cancel and 'pull' all media work before so if He was in such a bad mood why didn't He pull this one. I think Moz is feeling very embarressed about the way he acted and sounded and thats the best He can come up with! Grow up Moz,you wouldn't last 5 minutes in Syria...You could have always popped over there for the week??

He he. I suspect you wouldn't say any of that to Morrissey if you met him. I found Him erudite and entertaining on Saturday. Much more than can be said for you, I'm afraid! Whatever you are, Syria is waiting...

1- I quite enjoyed the royal wedding
2 - Dermot is a twat.
3 - There is no pont three
4 - I like corned beef

Christ almighty Moz I have every single on your new so-called 'Best Of' album about a dozen times, on various different formats. I am not buying another compilation! Get it? It's no biggie, you're already a multi-millionaire. Grow the f*** up. Yes the television coverage of the Royal Wedding was sycophantic in the extreme. What the holy shitballs did you expect? I can't remember them piling into Charles and Diane in 81 either. Oh and, seriously, chart positions? Chart Positions? CHART POSITIONS?!! Has the last five years totally passed you by? Who gives a crap?? You're beginning to sound like a foolish, hypocritical, washed-up, old queen. It's embarrassing. Oh and don't bother releasing a new album, if it's three power chords and the mics turned up to the max again. You're surviving on good will here Mozzer. The next thing you produce had better be good, or it's time to retire while you still have a shred of dignity. Apart from that, carry on! Lots of love. Anon.

Boo Hoo.... Royal Wedding...Boo Hoo Sulk Sulk. Ah Diddums! Twat!!

I really don't understand why sometimes he does this kind of interviews with such an attitude. He's old enough to either not do them or eitherwise be at least polite during that hour.

He just comes across as a spoilt brat which is a pity. Sometimes he seems to have ran out of ideas. He used to be so witty in interviews even if he'd in a mood sometimes. This is just lack of manners and no wit :/

I agree.

Anyone who has dealt with the media in any form, or who has any media training whatsoever knows that Morrissey breaks all the rules. From his defensive body language (the One Show was a great example) to his "needle the interviewer" style, he simply refuses to abide by polite convention. Sure, he sometimes comes off as rather unpleasant (or "formidable" to be kind), but he's seldom bland (which is probably a much greater offense).

Morrissey always leads with his chin: his relentless, full-blown tactlessness (after nearly three decades in the business) is a wonder to behold.

o'leary is a rude vile individual who is in the pocket/worked for one of the very people who is killing the very music industry that dictates what music you can buy and listen to - mr cowpat . i found morrissey to be witty and o'leary to be extremely rude , if moz was one of his idol's then wouldn't he listen to and try to let moz answer the questions without talking over him and being obnoxious . i find the british media really insultive to morrissey and try at any turn to make him look like a bigot , racist and everything else they have accused him of .

has for emi when i went to hmv to order glamerous glue / very best of .... up to three weeks before hand and the day after gg release i was told that ' he's on emi , that means it has to come from germany ' eh! doesn't it make sense that if a person wants a copy of a disc that you order it in advance . i'm still waiting for the call to say that my copy has arrived . soon there will be no hmv and it's bad customer service will have played a part .

as for everybody who slagging moz of for his views on the boyle wedding (no typing error) , zzzzzzzz factor , don't like it , don't read or post on a forum for morrissey fans . i don't hang on every word but find some fans to be very fickle and are no better than the british media . anyway go back to reading the notw , voting tory and listening to zoybone .

Morrissey:

I just came across your site - just to say I love your music and your stance on animal welfare.

I wish you health and continued success in your artistic life.

Don't listen to critics - to quote you on one of your live CD's "Thank you for being You" take care my friend.

Was the interview really that bad? I genuinely enjoyed it. Moz was just being typically evasive n disobedient. SO much more entertaining and funnier than most popstars being interviewed. The Royal Wedding, well if you enjoy that and support them in the 21st century than something is seriously wrong with you!

It seems alot of people are carrying snobbish opinions towards Moz at the moment, he has to fulfil certain criteria for his fans!

I, for one am not shocked about the Syrian/Iranian style censorship from Radio 2 because anyone that heard the Front Row interview online noticed Radio 4 also edited his "child-killer" remarks involving Cameron and hunting.

The interview sounded fine on face value although following Morrissey's apology, I can't help but wonder what else was "edited for content." Even when he's cranky, he's usually entertaining.

I'm happy he mentioned Poly Styrene's passing; the John Lennon quote about EMI had me hoot outloud and I'm looking foward to his live dates because that is where his star shines brightest. It' s a shame he is disappoined about the chart performance of his "Best of" and single, but hopefully it will be a distant memory once the new album finds a home somewhere.

Somehow, someway, it's gotta get out. Perserverance, ol' chap. Perserverance.

Which Moz admitted to watching (The X Factor)

as for everybody who slagging moz of for his views on the boyle wedding (no typing error)

Boyle??!! Boyle Wedding makes no sense! ,

zzzzzzzz factor

Zzzz Factor?? They are two of the most famous people on the planet now!!

go back to reading the notw , voting tory and listening to zoybone

Yes I Vote Tory, don't read NOTW and who the f*** are Zoybone!??? Ha ha ha

People actually, truly, really and astoundingly sound surprised that the man who has railed against the British Monarchy for two and a half decades, should voice his disgust -- again -- at another media spectacle. Who have you been listening to for all these years? Have you been listening?!

For the record, I loved his interview. I thought he was by turns witty, challenging, charming, evasive, contradictory and every other thing that the standard press junket interview zombie is NOT. Why on earth would Morrissey fans say something like he should be more "professional"? Actually, why would any sane person say that?
