2007 reissue, the first time on CD for this long-lost album from Ron and Russell Mael, originally released on Epic in 1977. Although this was the duo's seventh album, they chose the ironic Introducing Sparks as the album's title due to their lack of success in their homeland.

  1. Big Surprise
  2. Occupation
  3. Ladies
  4. I'm Not
  5. Forever Young
  6. Goofing Off
  7. Girls On The Brain
  8. Over The Summer
  9. Those Mysteries

Got my copy already.

Certainly not Sparks finest hour, infact nowhere near it, but it's an enjoyable record.

I have got a very rare black vinyl copy of this album on CBS (UK pressing).

Personally, I appreciate most albums Sparks have made (except for their Atlantic period in the early 80's) and this one is one of the few that many fans either love or hate. It was a highly slick, polished, middle of the road album with some big time musicians playing on the tracks such as David Paich and Lee Ritenour. I like the sunny Californian pop of "A Big Surprise", the singalong "Occupation", the punky "Forever Young" as well as the Hava Nagila pastiche "Goofing Off".

"Girls On The Brain" is straight out boogie blues rock, "Over The Summer" has gorgeous Beach Boysish harmony vocals and "Those Mysteries" is a surprisingly poignant and thought provoking song.

I'd recommend this album for anyone getting into Sparks, but listen to "Kimono My House" first if you want to know where the hype all really started.
