My favorites vacillate, but this one is always up there. I thought this was particularly apropos to note this year, given The Alain Whyte band's formation, touring, and almost inevitable playing of a lot of these tunes – some for the first time and some for the first time in a very long time. I hope they go bold and thundering.

You must please remember live debut would be satisfying.

To note on this thread too?

I was a bit disappointed that Alain never opted to include either "Dagenham Dave" or "The Boy Racer" in his Safe At Home Sessions. An acoustic run of "The Operation" would be interesting, too - I think there is a lovely single-that-never-was encased between the drum solo and the refurbished "That's Entertainment" jam.

@dneuer - can you put in a word with the boss? ;)

Yes! Thanks for the reminder. Would've been Autumn of my 10th grade year. It was grey outside. Makes total sense that now is the anniversary.

SG has big replay value. Talk about an album that can grow on you. I've always loved it, but now looking back - after so many releases since SG - it was a high mark in his career I think, no matter how many copies it sold. He should always be very proud of that record.

One of the greatest LPs of all time. Certainly up there with Dark Side of The Moon, Sergeant Peppers, Led Zeppelin IV and Kill Uncle 🥰

Oddly enough we were just talking about that the other day. Like, less than a week ago. Just mentioned this post to him 5 mins ago, and I quote “I need to learn up Dagenham Dave” lol. He’s mentioned several times before about that song having so many changes throughout, that it will take some effort to sort it out again properly.
The good news is… he’s definitely up for it when time permits, would seem. The “bad” news is, in stating this, one could deduce that it’s unlikely to be one of the songs that’s going to be played in Ireland. I can assure you there are going to be a fair number of other songs shared that fans have been clamoring for. One of the benefits of having the guy that wrote them and who knows how to play them in the band (not intended as a dig at current M band… just as Al may be able to play something he didn’t write, but may play it differently than the original writer) ;)

So, in essence, Alain said: Thanks for carin', don't mind sharin', on a Windows screen?

I'll see myself out...in far-off places.

Alright, alright - hey, I did my best and didn't worry.

(I knew I couldn't last.)

I'd love to hear Alain whip out a few of the songs he co-wrote during the Ringleader and Years of Refusal periods. I don't think he's ever played any of those songs on stage before.

In time… in time. I’m not sure there are many, if any, tunes he’ll shy away from playing and hopefully he’ll get to most of them at some point. I will say this… it doesn’t hurt to know what songs the fans want to hear him/them play. There is a balance to be found in playing what they want in addition to playing what the fans want to hear. Fortunately, there is a large overlap of the two, it would seem. I think there is a list of roughly 30 tunes they’re learning up for these gigs. They won’t play them all, but there is enough to choose from and spread out over the shows to keep each show fresh and unique. Personally, as a long time M fan and someone that clearly sees value in Alain’s solo material, I’m excited, not just for myself, but for those that go to the show(s).

I've always liked Dagenham Dave – for obvious reasons. Also, I think it got some of the funniest asides Morrissey ever put in song. Far be it for me to wish cast or tell the IAlain lead line up what to do, but those drums, and that level of guitar/bass (in addition to the multi-instrumental flavor that Gustavo brings, could really do something spectacular with The Operation, which I think might be my favorite track on the album, and one of my favorite overall Morrissey songs. Plus, the stuff Alan did in the recording with the screaming overdubs and the running sneakers and all that kind of thing just makes it real propulsive knockout and the span could really do something with it

My only request to pass along (if there could be so bold is to see if there could be an arrangement where soundboard are live recordings could be sold in the near future for those of us who will never make it to that side of the pond. I realize that that's probably difficult to arrange right away, but at some point in the future, if finances and logistics allow I would love for something like that. I would even contribute to the crowdfunding out some kind of live album or digital release

Dagenham Dave is a lost and underrated classic Moz 7" and 5" (Why the hell no 12"?). I was deeply satisfied (in my whole life too) when the single reached me in late August 1995. It was a step in the right direction. "Hammerhead Pop"(courtesy of Q mag), with swagger and learning the school of hard knocks. My God, how I loved his fake scars, as if he would through himself in any fight (not). He'd be the first away, because he still is that type. I never missed the melancholic Vauxhall vibes. Vauxhall was love, Southpaw a call to arms. I wish he (and me) stayed that age forever. Am I a hopeless 50+ old school fan? Yes, with bleeding, deep fake scars. Help me, help me....

there are a number of like-minded fans just feeling as if they’ve been left on the sidelines for years. It’s these fans (myself included), the ones that also “earned” the proverbial scars that one picks up along the way and still to this day wear them like a badge of honor in some way, that still appreciate that era and aren’t particularly keen to bin it and “move forward”. This is a big part of what Alain’s doing that appeals to a large portion of the M family and fan base. To write it off as nostalgia would be a foolish and shortsighted. Regardless of what a certain someone has semi-recently suggested, THOSE were the good old days many a fan still cling to. And sometimes it’s rewarding to go “back to the future”… (which in all of its cliched campness would have been a good name for the Ireland tour lol), often referred to as “back to one’s roots”. At risk of sounding like an advert for what Alain, Gaz, Spennie, Craig and Gus are doing, this is what those guys are offering. A mix of the good bits from the past blended with the more recent solo offerings that, not so coincidentally, will sit shoulder to shoulder with those older tunes we all still value so much.
