Songs you would like to hear Morrissey cover??

Home by Depeche Mode would be great.

Fast As You - Dwight Yoakam

It's got a rockabilly feel that would have fit in on the Kill Uncle tour.

I think a cover of Streets of Bakersfield would be interesting. "You don't know me but you don't like me; say you care less how I feel; but how many of you who sit and judge me; ever walked the Streets of Bakersfield."

The Sundays "I Kicked A Boy" would be good. I'll have to think about this some more. There are so many possibilities.

Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth - Sparks

That would be fab, but Depeche Mode (Martin Gore, even though he's my fave lad from DM) have already sullied it for me.

As for "The Streets of Bakersfield" I thought it would have been much more amusing to see him at Buck Owen's Crystal Palace -- and then he could've done "The Streets of Bakersfield" cover in tribute! Naw, that's too obvious and cheesy, innit?

Moz has chosen some great covers; that is he takes songs which in original form, I wouldn't listen to for 5 seconds, and makes them absolutely treasureable -- often these are songs by the NY Dolls.

But I always dreamed of Moz singing "Tous les garcons et les filles" by Francoise Hardy. However, I don't think he'd be up to doing the lyrics in French, and they don't sound that good translated in English, at least my translation doesn't fit the established meter quite right.

Nice viddy of Francoise Hardy singing Tour les garcons...

Here are the original lyrics to Tous les garcons...

In English:

walk in the street two by two
all boys and girls of my age
know well what it is to be happy

gazing deeply into one another’s eyes, they walk hand in hand
in love without fear of tomorrow
yes but me, I go alone in streets, my heart in sorrow
yes but me, I am alone, because nobody loves me

my days like my nights
are similar in all points
without joys and full of dissatisfaction
nobody murmurs “I love you” in my ear

all boys and girls of my age
make plans for the future together
all boys and girls of my age
know very well about wanting to express desire.

gazing deeply into one another’s eyes, they walk hand in hand
in love without fear of tomorrow
yes but me, I go alone in streets, my heart in sorrow
yes but me, I am alone, because nobody loves me

my days like my nights
are similar in all points
without joys and full of dissatisfaction
oh! when thus for me will the sun be shining?

like the boys and the girls of my age
I would like to know soon, what is love?
like the boys and the girls of my age
I ask myself when will the day come

where I gaze into my lover’s eyes and walk hand in hand,
I have a happy heart without fear of tomorrow
the day when I will not have a heart in sorrow any more
the day when I, too, will have somebody who loves me

"Light my fire" .The doors.
By the way, could Moz do the falsetto at the end of "Living a boy's adventure tale" by a-ha (as it has been suggested...) I am not sure...

Cole Porter was funny, sweet, and extremely sharp- those songs have a lot of sad wry humor and sharp little digs and twists that are just beautiful. Just like Moz.

You read my mind. Cole Porter was just phenomenal, so sophisticated and complex. I love his recording of "What is This Thing Called Love," it's so haunting, and terribly sad. I'd LOVE to hear Morrissey cover that.
