"So Low"

I'm just looking for the SOL that's causing me all the OW.

the thread isn't about kewpie.

it's about david posting an anonymous unverified rumour and Morrissey wishing to have it removed.

It wasn't unverified and anonymous, well at least not Reggie, the main person complaining he hadn't been paid. In the beginning, Reggie was anonymous but not ever to David.

But I'll give you that it was a major gaffe posting that one of the Russian shows had been canceled when actually it wasn't. And David does post rumours, but he labels the headlines as such. Sometimes the rumours are interesting, sometimes they are tired (like the Smiffs to reform ). At least he updates the mistakes quickly (unlike some other Moz-oriented site) and in good faith.

I was tremendously saddened from the debacle of the unpaid staff story because I saw that my god had clay feet. I totally support David. It doesn't mean I don't still love Morrissey, but siccing the legal eagles on David when Moz was actually the one in the wrong put me off Morrissey for a while. I couldn't even listen to Elvis because the association was too painful.

I only saw what was posted today. I wasn't around when it was originally posted. I mean unverified and anonymous to the regular front page user. If it was verified in the future by whomever Reggie is, I'm unaware (I assume it has been verified as per your post).

I would've never claimed them to be unverified or anonymous if the original post would have said something like...

Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor that I've heard on different occasions from an internal source about crew members and band from last year's tour not being paid yet? Does this have anything to do with the rumored February East Coast US dates and perhaps the UK festival dates not coming together?

I'm very disappointed with Morrissey.
Why did him name this site "so low" if here there are only fans of him?

I'm relatively new here and don't frequent this site all that much, but it has caught my eye how much flack the poor moderator gets. In other forums I participate, if you bash the moderators you get banned.

I just want to put on record that this is not my sentiment, I was just making a reference from another poster's signature.

I lovingly disagree with Mel. It is poor journalistic form to "publish" rumors in general unless it is a matter of significant public concern (e.g. SWINE FLU). So that piece (and pieces that followed) haven't exactly raised the bar for honesty and forthrightness.

Does anyone genuinely believe that a hardened road crew would need this site to stick up for them against mean, old Morrissey. (His Mum could probably take them out, but that's another discussion for another time.)

You can be a fan site. You can have freewheeling forums. You can be a news site, and allow sensible discussion of such news. (You can still have freewheeling forums.) I know the Internet-9/11-Obamarama phenomena has changed the public's perception of news, but I still maintain that (in this case alone) you CANNOT have both. (Tell the small, shy boy inside that he should learn to tie a noose.) [Note: That wasn't directed at my Mel - just the state of the disunion. Mel does keep a small, shy boy inside and he knows not to give her any lip.]

I visit SoLow for a scarce tidbit of info here and there. You've got a beef with your boss? Not my problem, and certainly not news.

Why is you confused? I love and respect Mel, so there's no negative feeling for her.

Journalism was my first love, but journalism turned into a hideous monstrosity that is more about spin than fact. (It's all over the tee vee and the Intermess.) So I left the wretched beast at the altar — journalism, that is. Mel is a savage beast, and I'd gay-marry her in a heartbeat. (A homo on SoLow? Why, yes, I am.)

The only financial problem I have with the mighty Him is when my Amex has to be paid, and, really, that's the only sort of fiscal dilemma that should be an issue here.

There are a lot of great people on Morrissey's payroll, but there has also been a vile piece of scum or two. (Sleaze Sanchez, anyone?) [Sorry, getting sidetracked.] Payroll disputes are not "news", that's all. We are not our Mozzer's bookkeeper. (Imagine the hell that must be with Mike Joyless trying to intercept the post, and shake down the carrier for whatever spare change he can get!?!)

Blahblahblah... I like David, but this site could have been a more direct conduit between Morrissey and fans. Now we have a barrier with confusing people creating Twitter and FaceBook accounts claiming to speak for or represent Morrissey. We have the Russian-gigs fiasco, and I just pray that no one turned around and lost money due to that prank.

Knowing Morrissey's animus towards "journalists", it can't be easy trying to run a fan site and play cub-reporter. I do not envy David at all.

TLDR

As much as i love Morrissey and his views and ideals on life, i find it incredibly silly that he would go to such lengths to stop rumours and stuff that could possibly tarnish his image, pop up on this site. The word 'Hitler' comes to mind

It's a shame that Hitler and the National Socialists didn't have a slashdot message board.

They would never have made it to Poland.

lol my comment about the word 'hitler' was made in a jokey manner hence the smiley:
Obv some people didn't get it, it IS just a forum, and not question time :)

People have a lot of opinions on what should or should not be on the site, but in the end it is my call and I take responsibility for what I post. Most things are easy enough to ignore if you don't feel interested. In the 12+ years running the site, I'll make mistakes and will continue to learn from them. I doubt anyone has run a site for that long and not made any sort of mistake.

For this incident from 2003, it is a bit more complicated -

1. The roadie had been posting details in the comments section of non-related stories, I surfaced it as a question to get it out there and over with. If it were completely false it would have died away quickly.

2. Several years before that in an incident the roles were reversed and in that case Morrissey was the one not being paid by a tour manager and he wanted something posted. Seems like a double standard that he would be that upset when he is called on it.

So I have learned that it is better not to get drawn in by these things but if it is of interest I would still post it.
