Signed Vinyl at the Birthday Gig

I'm on a mission to hunt someone down....

At last night's Apollo gig my partner was finally persuaded to leave just before the encore to go and buy a signed LP for me (loads of posts on here have explained that 20 - 30 are available everynight and go on sale when the encore starts).

My partner joined a queue - she was 10th in line - and others queued behind her. They were told that only 18 LPs were available. OK, I suppose, she was 10th in line.

Then the first bastard in the queue bought 5. And the second one bought 4.

FFS!

When people in the queue started to complain, security stepped in and moved people away. She returned to the gig looking very upset.

So, to those who bought multiple copies:

What is the point? What are you going to do with them? Because of your selfish behaviour other fans in the queue were VERY disappointed - lots of people were in the queue, they all wanted one, a souvenir of a very special show, but you took it upon yourself to spoil it. Bastards.

When we left and were walking awy from the venue, my partner pointed out the person at the front who bought 5 - struggling to carry a very heavy carrier bag. Bastard. I've seen him before at shows, he's a regular up front. This can't have been his first gig of the tour, nor his first signed album(s).

I'm working on the assumption that he reads solo - how else do people know that the LPs are on sale at the encore? So why? Come on, show yourself, and expalin yourself.

Dave (still fuming the morning after)

Would it really take that much effort for the stall guy to say "one per customer..."

Really beggers belief that they dish out 5 to one person.

I think I'd follow the selfish twat down a dark alley and under take a modern day Robin Hood act. Reselling his copies to the masses...

I was that 'bastard' who bought 5!

I bought 3 for my friends who were on the barrier and they asked me to get them theirs since they would be unable to do so. I bought one for my cousin's 21st birthday but this American guy was so upset so I gave him my cousins copy. I'll need to find something else for her birthday now.

I only got one for myself.

Sorry your partner was disappointed, but I was only helping out my friends.

I really hope your partner gets one tonight.

We were outside the gig long after it had ended and saw the merchandise chap walking away with one of the LP's under his arm. So that explains why there were only 19 maybe:mad:

I agree, one per person sounds fair.

Have faith in the laws of karma and do not be bitter.

Take joy in that fact, plus you have a partner devoted enough to have sacrificed the encore to try and get you a vinyl. That's precious and worth more than any autograph.

She's going to dine out on that one for a long time :)

it was different merch guys last night , normally the other guy only lets you buy one ..
Again, one each, sounds fair.

I don't understand how, if your friends were at the front, they couldn't join a queue like everyone else who wanted one. Sounds like they wanted to have their cake and eat it. Being at the front and in line at the same time. Well, I suppose Moz did say "I can Have Both".

My partner won't be at the gig tonight, I'm going on my own. I'll be leaving just before the encore, to join a queue and hope for the best. Hopefully the merchandise guys will see sense - if they have 20 LPs to sell and there are 20 people queueing up to buy them, then it's one each.

Glad you made yourself known. YOU ARE A SELFISH TWAT.

I was the queue also and the sales person asked how many each person wanted , I only wanted one and was the last one counted by the sales girl , at this point was delighted to be getting one and was chatting to a lad from LA top lad , then a greedy bastard 2 people up from me bought 2 instaed of the one he said he wanted and when it was my turn none left . Well I hope it keeps you warm at night , not the type of behavoir I would expect :tears::tears:
And yes it should be only one per person

Fantastic gig

Queueing for pre-signed vinyls???

20 or 30 at each gig??

Commercialism at it's darkest, I think.

Morrissey doesnt seem like the type.

that sounds perfectly reasonable. I would have been terribly happy and thankful if you were buying one for me. :blushing:

:( that's unfair.

Is it just me who'd prefer see the encore than queue in the hope of getting the vinyl? I mean, I'd rather possess the memories of that than something which Morrissey happens to have written his name on.

I'm not a massive fan of signed things unless it's something I've actually gotten signed myself.

that's right, I would NOT leave the show unless I'm so far behind that staying or leaving is the same thing...
all the more reason to have a good soul buying it for me! :D

it matters not, morrisseys not the commercial type, everybody knows this, although really i think mabey it would have been fair to let 1 go to each of the 1st people in the q.mabey he paid over the odds for them,id much rather enjoy the gig and watch the encore like i did the other night,1st of the gang to die got the crowd wild in hull.moz touched my hand and looked me right in the eyes for about 5 seconds,he was like god,id rather have that than an autographed vinyl anyday, unforgetable.danny k from hull:thumb:

Buying an autograph is lame. Leaving before the encore is lamer. Seriously, who leaves before the encore at his 50th birthday gig?

Never mind I had a iced birthday bun at Salford Lads Club and met more great like minded people , great weekend :guitar:

My husband sneaked out during the gig to get one of the vinyls for me (by the way, today is my birthday and he thought about this awesome present for me). He was very upset that the merch guy counted him kind of out of the queue - he stood directly behind your partner. My husband tried to discuss the matter and immediately the security showed up.
Would be great to get a signed LP but sorry, we are already at home - so there is no second chance left to queue up again! I wonder if these signed vinyls are already on ebay?????

Yeah, I feel the same. I can kind of see the appeal of the signed vinyls to some people, but it means so much more to me to watch the encore.
Having said that, the whole queue situation sounds like a bit of a shambles. It must be s*** to miss the encore AND still not get what you left it for. :(

Let's see... you are a lucky enough bastard to get a ticket (which many of us here would do anything for) to this 2 amazing shows and you leave before the end to get a piece of signed plastic? Idiots. Buy one on ebay, watch the gig. It's what you paid to you. I'll happily take your ticket off you and enjoy every last second of that show.

Maybe it's just because I've never understood the appeal of autographs but this isn't some run of the mill show. It's Manchester, on his 50th. Only a total fool would leave early for any reason.

I can see the appeal of having something signed if you were the one to get it signed, as that can be a lovely memento of a moment - for example, I got Simon Pegg to sign a press pack for 'How To Lose Friends...', which is the perfect reminder of my first experience of "real" journalism.
Pre-signed things only appeal to me under very selective circumstances - my signed Ash album booklet only really means something to me because my friend thought to keep it for me as a present after getting it at a gig.

That said, I do agree with you that it would be awful to skip out on the encore and miss out on both that and the vinyl.
I do agree with everyone saying that it should be one per person but, equally, I can also appreciate that Still ILL was picking up the extra copies for friends rather than for personal gain.
