Should Billy Budd have been a single?

    Believe me, 2016 is nothing in comparison with 1997.

    Now Morrissey is obviously without a record deal and is down on his luck, but that has to be balanced with the fact that he is 57 years old. Not that many people of his age are at the top of their game, and he is at least now respected for the body of work that he has created.

    In 1997 Morrissey was still a young man, and yet was considered by many to be entirely finished. Releases like the Introducing Morrissey video and the World of Morrissey comp were mocked in the press and I remember an article in the NME where they essentially ridiculed any Morrissey fan. There was also the headline in a local paper when Morrissey played Chester that said, "Heaven knows why anyone would go to see him". That summed up the attitude of many at the time.
