I think some people are getting way bent out of shape w/this.

# 1 - Matt isn't leaving b/c of this. He's doing his most important work musically (ever, unless there's great stuff unreleased) as a part of the band here. From the statement that I (and I'm sure the rest of you) read, Manson missed the mark on Morrissey's point. We're getting out of control w/judgement. Sometimes, our opinions really don't matter that much, like back-in-the-day when you had to earn the right to express them (and earn the right to have real listeners) in a 'forum' type environment. I think more people need to close their mouths until what they have to say is very valid and pertinent (and helpful too!).

# 2 - Morrissey's statements were spot on regarding people's opinions on $ex and the convenience of hindsight. Slightly callous regarding the 14-year-old's treatment, but was still accurate about the responsibility of the individual who puts themselves at risk. He even mentioned the minor's parents, b/c you have to when dealing w/minors.

GREAT new record by the way. Only clunker for me is the closing track (not into the repetition of verses like that). Girl From Tel-Aviv is one of Moz's greatest solo songs. Again, great GREAT record! :)

No she didn't.

"Yeah, so she was high on drugs and yeah, she was wearing a short skirt, but I still don't think she played a role in being victimized. What I took from hearing her speak on the subject, even though I disagree entirely with how she chose to speak on the subject, I think what she's struggling to say is just be alert, and be careful at all times. It doesn't guarantee safety, but it can, you know... just be careful. That's what I think she's trying to say. But if somebody is vile enough to want to hurt another person, they will. Doesn't matter what you're wearing, what you're doing, where you walk, how you walk. They will do what they want to do. That's how I feel."

This is the full text of the interview where she spoke about Chrissie Hynde. Interesting that the point of her comments could also be applied to Mossisseys comments.

"Well, first and foremost, I love her to death and I was a little taken aback by her choice of words in describing what had happened to her," Manson begins. "I think most importantly, despite our love of our heroes, tigers are tigers for a reason -- don't be surprised if the tiger acts errantly occasionally. Nobody's perfect. All of us have been known to say some really stupid things or some things that are open to interpretation. I think you have to remember in the situation where someone has been a victim of a violent crime, that their perspective is colored by a lot of issues. Hearing Chrissie speak, we still don't know all the details of her experience and we don't know the full story of how she recovered --
if she's recovered. So I disagree with her; I don't think anyone plays a role in playing a victim of a violent crime, and I don't think she did either. Yeah, so she was high on drugs and yeah, she was wearing a short skirt, but I still don't think she played a role in being victimized. That's how I feel.

"
I have never pretended to be perfect. I will continue to make sloppy mistakes. I will continue to hurt people and offend people. In this case, Chrissie has done that," Manson continues. "She's offended so many people and hurt so many people who were so disappointed, but she's not perfect either. She's to be forgiven, too, because she's done so many other great things for women. And I wouldn't have had an opportunity to be in this position had it not been for a fearless warrior like her. Yes, there are some people who cannot forgive what she said. I think that's a pity."

I'm so disappointed for the victims who red this ... at first. and for him too... because I start to think that he has a really serious problem with alcool. When did they ask him these questions? Just after a concert? He was so drunken that he didn't realise that these idiocies will turn all around the world ? For the new release, what a great job !!!! It's misunderstanding !

His problem is that he doesn't think before he speaks. I figured this was why he only did email interviews. Then he goes and does an in-person interview and looks the ass again.

But at the same time, is this just another move on his part to ensure he stays in the press? "New Morrissey album with controversy courting songs released" is a much less attention grabbing headline than "Morrissey defends Spacey, Weinstein, and advocates for stricter immigration and border control, calls Berlin Rape Capital."

Trolling only gets you so far. Funny that the first in person interview in a while is released at the same time as the album, and is a complete media circus shit-show.

"The Queen Is Dead" and "Margret on the guillotine" were the titles considered for the album those lyrics were on. That Morrissey never existed.

It wasn't in Germany until Thursday, when the parliament cast a rare unanimous vote closing what German Justice Minister Heiko Maas described as "blatant loopholes" in his country's sexual assault laws.

Previously, before charges could be filed a victim had to show police and prosecutors that she or he tried to physically resist the attacker. If a victim said "no," that alone was not enough. Maas called it a "second, bitter humiliation for the victims" when perpetrators weren't punished.

Shirley Manson is spot on. Morrissey has lost the plot. Anyone still defending him has lost the plot as well...

Exactly. I've long defended Morrissey, but these recent outbursts are f***ing enough.

Seeing otherwise decent people, with decent morals, bending over backwards to defend Morrissey's abhorrent, far-right views is f***ing tragic. I've seen people on Facebook, who purport to be socialists and fans of Jeremy Corbyn go out of their way to defend Morrissey's views, and assert that anyone who disagrees with him isn't a real fan, and claim there is a conspiracy against him. These people are cultists, and they are seriously deluded.

I'm not sure anyone is going to say "Hey, let's go get that new album by the guy who defended Spacey and Weinstein". I suppose you could think that any press is good press, but I'm not sure that's going to prove true of a record release these days. All of this being too bad I think. He's making provocative and interesting songs in an age where "more of the same" seems to be more common. Unfortunately, as usual, he can't seem to get out of his own way.

I think the journalist has been "clever" and Morrissey has been "stupid".
The interview in which he mentions K. Spacey is, at least, very bizarre... the questions that they asked him are weird, but the journalist saw that he was replying to everything and asked him about the most controversial subjects possible.

Morrissey should have said: "Why the hell are you asking me about these issues?".

I have nothing interesting to say about K. Spacey... I doubt that Shirley Manson has something interesting to say either.... and Morrissey didn't say something interesting either.

I am surprised that they didn't ask him to analyze the political situation of Zimbawe.
