selling off my collection

What amuses much is the fact that Morrissey HAD ALWAYS been like this... He was never politicaly correct. Zero change from 1983 to now! Maybe you have changed, but not him. You can check his quotes in the scans from Smash Hits, Melody Maker, NME that are floating around. So, I think no price impact if real fans are looking for it... And I would be interested in some of your collection if you really are going to move forward with this idea. Give us a item and price list and lets see.
I think the climate has changed, and people are more easily offended. There is a heightened awareness of issues of race and equality, although some might argue it's become a bit over-developed. But I do think he has become addicted to the intense, and these days fairly instant burst of media attention he gets from these statements - good or bad, it's feeding a need.

Ha, I see where you’re coming from. I come here in the sad hope that he has suddenly come to his senses and denounced himself of late. If he announced a tour I simply could not attend.

The damage has yet to manifest itself. I know that a considerable number of his U.K. fan base, those who’ve been gigging for decades, have come to the end of the road with him. The For Britain validation and his current reading recommendation was certainly a line crossed for me.
Totally agree. I go to The Smyths gigs nowadays to get my Smiths/Moz fix. Never thought it would come to this, but I have to say they are very very good.

Looks at eBay completed listings and you’ll find out there is no weakening of demand...

Yes, of course, you're right on this. But, what I can't stand is to see people around here or journalists all over saying that he changed, that he used to be in the other side and things like that. He was always an outsider. His opinions on music and politics, mainly, were always outburst and virulent.

I’m not British, but I do love that place, but from everything I see in the world of today is that, comparing with 80’s the “left wing” rose in many countries like France, UK, Brazil, Spain, Germany, just to name a few and I really DON’T see much difference. They simply CAN’T OR DON’T want to do the things that would more equality to the society and I’m not talking about utopian communism or socialism. And he is echoing this when he says Tories and Conservatives are the same “bag of cats” (no intention to offend the cats here, please).

So, I saw Morrissey advocating for animals in Meat is Murder, when veganism was very alternative and, then, 30 years later advocating against Politics (“every time you vote, you support the process”), when being somewhat
an anarchist is pretty much alternative. And the process, in my opinion, is that no matter who is on the rise, he will be changed, and no changes will be allowed. Corruption, bribery, make believe… economic power is the one that elects A, B or C.

And, many here will say the contrary, but although I think he says too much (Bigmouth will always strike again), most of the things he says are echoed by the press out of the context, like the Spiegel interview. His fault was mix things up saying he did not say the things he actually said. But, again, this is more of the same, since he states the press misquotes him since Smiths’ era. In Spiegel case he would be more successful if he had chosen to state that the other newspaper, magazines and sites brought everything out of the context, which was true.

So, yes, the World had changed, but not Moz. So, blame him not because he changed his opinions, but because he DID NOT. And, of course, walk away… and be kind and gentle.

I don't want to talk politics because we've had enough ugly stuff on here lately. But just to say, Morrissey was never left wing and people who are now upset because they think he has 'switched sides' have missed the point. He was simply anti-establishment - an outsider, as you say. This also explains why his political views have no logical thread, because they lurch from one personal fixation to the next; the main connection between Bernie Sanders and Anne Marie Waters is that they're outsiders who were/are never likely to win.

I do find it sad that at nearly 60 he is still not grown up enough to take responsibility for his actions and is still stuck in the childlike, 'it wasn't me, I didn't say it, they're all out to destroy me'. For what it's worth I thought the Der Spiegel interview had some interesting discussion points, but poorly expressed. In the current climate, you cannot wade into explosive topics like Metoo#, immigration/migration and rape without sensitivity, eloquence and knowledge, and he falls short on all three.

Yes, thats it! Although in regards to lyrics he, most of the times, know how to express himself, in interviews he always poorly express himself. It lacks preparation and sensibility to choose the words, so that he's quotes do not end being misquoted and he being labeled racist and other "ists" that are clearly, for the ones who don't misquote him on purpose, not true. Thanks for this "conversation". Glad to know that still have persons around this incredible site who can chat, express ideas and don't need to offend to make his/her point.

Erm, I have no idea what any of this means. If someone has something of value to sell, then let him/her sell it, without all the off topic comments and put downs. I for one would love a nice, colour picture of Morrissey to hang on the wall. Doesn't have to be signed, just good quality. Just my op.
