What I love most about those who attack musicians/celebrities for speaking against the system which made them rich is that if they didn't then they would only be criticized for not doing so. Morrissey's always been critical of 'the system', in one way or another, but he's become more vocal of his views over the last few years. This is a similar to the problem I have with people who say they love the music but despise the artist; they struggle to realize that there are layers to music which go beyond the 3 minute track or the 45 minute LP - music has a meaning and it isn't just there to act as a pretty aesthetic for your ears.

"Each time you vote you support the process."

Morrissey is making a fool of himself. Why does he write such laughable lyrics? Is it just because of his poor education? Some kind of mental disorder? Poor quality control at Harvest?

A small prediction: the second album of the 2 record deal will never see the light of day. "World Peace" will not do well. The new songs are lackluster & uninspired. He will then blame the nice people at Harvest for poor sales figures and they will kick him to the curb. A new dry spell will begin.

Ah, the cycle of life.

Listening to World Peace again makes me wonder if it is even more cynical and manipulative than it first appears.

Paraphrasing Bill Hicks's view on marketing I wonder if Morrissey is going for the anti-capitalist dollar. "That's a big dollar."

I don't have a problem with people challenging the status quo, in fact, when it is done well and in a thought-provoking manner, I enjoy it. Even Crass and the Redskins had an alternative to put forward. You can't say that of Morrissey. "It's all shit" is not a political credo.

WPINOYB does nothing but retread the same tired clichés, scribbled on a million exercise books in a thousand languages by schoolchildren across the world for decades. It is entirely devoid of wit or insight, but more than just that, you'd need to be cloth-eared not to realise these three songs are not anywhere near the lyrical intelligence or musical beauty of those which appear even on Quarry.

As for those who wonder why I bother, I'll happily tell you. If Morrissey is now just "Brand with a band" his obnoxious views and simplistic bullshit needs to be challenged before more dimwits fall for it.

Remember, Morrissey feels he does not have to explain his own opinion. He said that himself. He feels he is above such things. No, sunshine, you're not.

Jonny Barleycorn, why do you bother? Nobody here (apart from the two or three other trolls) could care less about your endless sneering. Moz could discover a cure for AIDS and you'd be attacking him because it's not a cure for cancer. The huge irony that seems sadly lost on you is that you have become precisely the predictable, tired, repetitive, self-parody that you continually accuse Morrissey of becoming.

That's because Johnny Barleycorn took the lyrics to National Front Disco a little too literally and has been waiting for a return to form in which Morrissey sings a long, slow melodic ballad about neo-fascists finally making the world safe for Johnny by hunting down members of the urban poor, who are only poor due to a conscious choice to forgo work and instead live through crime, branding them on the bare buttocks with pictures of Winston Churchill or the Queen or something.

This not before, of course, they will solve the problem of the Baader-Meinhoff Complex's media monopoly, which includes both the Huffington Post and the Guardian, where they regularly forward the view that obviously guilty minorities should be purposefully set free with the sole purpose of committing more crimes--presumably against nice folks like Johnny Barleycorn. All in the name of political correctness--whatever that is.

England's National Saviors will also reopen the profession of architecture to nice English boys like Johnny Barleycorn. Currently, it's in the grips of Spanish homosexuals who rack up large amounts of credit card debt on amphetamines and male prostitutes. This is when they are not mocking perfectly healthy sized English ladies for their weight--though not in the presence Mr. Barleycorn as they know he would really sock it to them and they fear him and his proper middle class proclivities towards violence.

I'd also imagine the Great White Saviors will do something about immigration, unions, and retaking the colonies, but I'm not sure--as this is starting to seem too long for one song.

Regardless, while I agree that parts of World Peace is None of Your Business are lyrically clumsy (though mostly spot on in observation--at least from the vantage point of those of us who merely live in the United States) I do think it will probably fair better than Mr. Barleycorn's imagined prized song.

And I am somewhat certain that the few lyrical missteps (Police will stun you with stun guns--I get the point police brutality is a major problem in the Untied States and a series impetus to social change, but that just seems like that could have been said…less redundantly?) are not the reason why Mr. Barleycorn is sitting at his keyboard red-faced and fuming with steam popping out of his top hat and his monocle nearly falling off from his violent convulsions of pure unbridled rage.

He hasn't been this upset since the last time he wadded into the comment section of the Guardian and/or the Huffington Post to be drawn and quartered all over in the internet in the name of political correctness (still don't know what this is)!

Poor Mr. Barleycorn--so far from God, so close to having his head so far up his ass as it will never come out. At least not with surgery. And than he'd probably be forced to see a communist Cuban doctor due to the Baader-Meinhoff inspired politically correct architecture of Spanish homosexual trade unionist with massive credit debt.

Sorry but a little vague.
How on earth do you judge the difference between people not knowing a new songs and people not liking a new song?

Maybe I'm judging that on the couple in front of me... Guy turns to girl. "This is the new song? YIKES. Time to get a drink." and she replies "I'll come with you."

Thanks for trying to save me from myself, pal, I'm obviously too dim to make up my own mind, but your incredibely insightful post has completely changed my mind. I hate the new stuff too now, I hope this satisfies you.
The truth is of course that you just love yourself oh so much when typing negative crap.

Hilarious post! Poor JB, his once beloved Morrissey has gone and written a song with a political sentiment he doesn't agree with. I have read Little Lord Barleycorn making some interesting/amusing posts in other areas of the board, but when he strays onto politics or Morrissey - and in this case both - his blue blood boils and he spouts the worst kind of unctuous conservative claptrap... it probably doesn't even occur to him that Morrissey has written this song precisely to steam up the rose-tinted monocles of people like him...

I agree with your prediction Eric and I'm sure many others will as well, these are only utube clips BUT the songs are piss-poor !
A miracle ? The only miracle I can think he means is that it was a miracle to be given a two album deal, and to then announce the album is a follow up to Viva Hate is an insult to Stephen Street, Vinny Reilly and everyone who made that album which gave him his solo foundation.
On the qt I think everyone was secretly wishing and hoping this was the one to redeem him back to form (even me)but it's been another rock n roll swindle. Can it get any better ? I say NO, the lemmings say yes feck off Benny you **** ! But they will change their minds.
R I P Steven, America with its belly so BIG, where the president is never female, gay or humasexual and the land of fast MEAT HAMBURGER outlets and penthouse living. . . . . . . AMERICA has killed you and there is no point saying it again.

Maybe he re-read "Soul of Man Under Socialism," By O. Wilde and was inspired to write "World Peace is Nunya's Bizness."

Great set! After listening to World Peace about 30 times this morning I love it! Thought "The Bullfighter Dies" was awesome as well. Great to see him playing "Trouble Loves Me", 'Asleep" and "National Front Disco" . "Meat is Murder" seems to be a staple now and I couldn't me any more pleased about that because that song means more to me than any other song ever written. Seeing him 3 times next month will be an unbelievable time. Cant wait!

Asleep proves his genius.

For those who aren't moved by the new songs, I imagine it's because your lives have moved on and his has not.

For those who are claiming that some on here want him to fail, I don't know if you'll recall Bruce's A Chance To Shine fanzine because live reviews accused him of being 'artless' and 'wobbly' back then and that was 20 years ago.

Few late career works are regarded as being on a par with an artist's 'classic' work at the time of it's release.

Wow. WPINOYB is his Socialist anthem. Bravo Morrissey.

Stage invaders should be tasered then thrown back into the first rows. Their selfishness ruins an opportunity for the man and his band to finish their set. Also, alot of sick people out there, how do you know someone won't get poked with a knife? Not cool.

Plenty of people complaining about the San Jose set list and new album. Maybe time for you to retire from Morrissey instead of calling for his end.

The longer the concert, the better. As long as Morrissey's enjoying himself and the band is on, that should be enough for all who enjoy the man's music.

"Another reason why the omnipotence of 'wealth' is more certain in a democratic republic is that it does not depend on defects in the political machinery or on the faulty political shell of capitalism. A democratic republic is the best possible political shell for capitalism, and, therefore, once capital has gained possession of this very best shell, it establishes its power so securely, so firmly, that no change of persons, institutions or parties in the bourgeois-democratic republic can shake it. Universal suffrage is an instrument of bourgeois rule."

Why don't you find out for yourself.
