Russell Mael 'disillusioned’ by Morrissey’s recent comments

Sparks singer ‘disillusioned’ by Morrissey comments - BT
The former Smiths singer is a long-time admirer of Russell and Ron Mael’s music.

Excerpt:

Sparks singer Russell Mael has described comments Morrissey made in April about politics and race and last year in response to the Manchester terror attack as “ill-conceived and wrong”.

Mael, whose pop-rock band is famously beloved by the former Smiths singer and who is a fan of Morrissey himself, added that he “does not understand” the remarks.

Morrissey recently made comments where he suggested people should give far-right political party For Britain a chance and that halal meat production required “certification that can only be given by supporters of Isis”.

Following the bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in the Manchester Arena in May 2017, the singer implied in a statement that politicians were scared to call the attacker an Islamist extremist.

Asked for his thoughts on the singer’s comments, Mael told the Press Association: “I’m totally in agreement with anybody being disillusioned because I am as well.

“It seemed so inconsistent, all these perspectives that he has on those various issues, just stupid, dumb kind of things.

“I obviously don’t agree with any of these things. They’re just so ill-conceived and wrong.”

He added: “It’s just a pity. When you’re a fan of somebody you want to be a fan in all sorts of ways.

“You may be like ‘I still really like the music, but the person, I can’t agree with their stance’.

“I’m like all the people that don’t understand what is in his mind. I don’t understand.”

Then some of you thought you could order Morrissey to still love him.

And he obeyed. We now order him :whip: to still love Russell.

He does whatever we want him to.

Almost all the time.

Always amused with the various "I don't understand his comments" etc. You may disagree with Morrissey (I don't) but surely you can look around you and understand what he means. Just as some people's minds are boggled by (so-called) racist comments, my mind is boggled by how you could honestly think unlimited immigration and melding of all cultures is ok. There's nothing wrong with people living with their "tribe". This doesn't instantly mean we have to hate the other.

Grooming gangs will keep raping now that they know journalist will be put in jail for reporting it. The inmates are running the prison in the UK. I guess in the USA we value quality and not quantity. You have to value the USA to live here we arent afraid of the word racist. Are so so weak minded as a country that you allow people in your country to commit rape in gangs with no consenquence because you are afraid to be called racist? you are all weak. Call me racist, I dont give a f***.

Maybe that tit Surface aka Skinny will have James do a charity gig so the grooming gang can replace the broken ratchet.

Moz has more common sense than just about anyone.

The amount of Muslim grooming gangs going through the British courts all the time means there are even more out there than we can even imagine going unpunished. And what do you do? Put up a picture of Savile and a priest. You're living in the misty far distant past.

Dylan got called 'Judas' at one concert... once. Because he'd gone electric. If he'd done what Morrissey has essentially done and gone, 'I f***ing hate Moslems' I doubt he'd be held in such high regard today. Though Clapton is, so maybe he would.

Left wing folk movement musicians slagged Bob Dylan off and called him "Judas" back in the day when they realized he wouldn't conform to their community. So what? Far left ideologues have always been afraid of diversity of thought. I have no doubt if UncleSkanky had any real power he'd have Fidel Castro style prisons full of people committing so-called "thought crimes", or send millions to Gulags like the Soviets.
Morrissey is not racist, and repeating that smear over and over again is never gonna make him one.
Maybe UncleSkanky should ask Moby why there are so many refugees from the Middle East in the first place. Is it because Senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whom Moby campaigned and raised funds for, caused so much destruction in Iraq, Libya, Syria, etc etc etc?
Morrissey was writing songs telling those deranged politicians in America and the UK not to do that.

Dylan was the dude who got the Stones to play Isreal. Told them it was probably the greatest country in
the world after the USA.:sunglasses: Nobody screaming about Allah in the street. This is at true fact.

It was someone at the Albert Hall who hollered Judas, maybe baby Chezz taking the piss.:baby:>:turban:

Regardless of anything to do with Morrissey, I'm glad that seeing the name Russell Mael inspired me to listen to Sparks again. It had been a while, and they are a very strange, but very good band.

I wouldn't go swimming with them, that's for sure.

I don't understand half the posts on this forum pretty sure a lot of people come here after a night of drinking! I mean what's going on with the guy who's made about 2 pages worth of posts about Russell being gay haha. I guess there are trolls wherever you go online though.

Ron and Russell from Sparks seems like decent guys though I reckon, to the people who say they're talking about Morrissey for publicity I've read/listened to quite a few interviews with them and they are often asked about him. If anyone's going to slag people off publicly to get in the news it's Morrissey himself surely?

Anyway didn't come here to hate, I love Morrissey and he makes lot of good points (as well as a lot of not so good ones!) he just doesn't seem like a very nice person recently though?

Also loved the recent Sparks release, their best in years I reckon!

what does perception say?
Perception says that the gay dude is 99 percent gay.

Poor Russell. I wonder how disillusioned the other Russell is with Morrissey's "far right" comments.

Not that weird , Morrissey hates Jake these days and Jake has no time for Mozza, Jake is a nasty piece of work he took and took form Moz
It wasn't just money and chances but he twisted his soul, you can mark a change of personality from the moment Moz met Jake. You ask any Moz insider they will tell you how disgusting Jake is .
For all Moz has done for Jake , Jake wastes no time in bad mouthing Moz, ask anyone who knows Jake in London .
It's an indication of how needy Jake is though, hat in spite of his hard man , cock of the walk image , to find anyone he had to dip into the moz fan base , like Jesse , Sam, Baby Jeff and Kristeen Young and a number of others using the Moz to make hay.
Its hard to feel sorry for a brass escort/stripper like his parter Emily but you have to feel sorry for anyone stuck with Jake.
Some of the Moz insiders laughed very long and very very loudly when Emily took a shine to Mr A More the remarkable moz look alike - like a moz a weirdo . She was obsessed,. Its true she was gonna walk out on Jake , the whole nine yards. From what I've heard Jake hasn't got over it. Its almost as if Mozza willed the whole thing, a revenge served.
So no if there is any anti moz carry on, jake will be happy to join in

Let’s think about how wrong the media is:
Morrissey questions the violence of killing animals,
Questions how extreme the left is
Wonders where a 14 year olds parents were when the person was alone in a room with Kevin spacey.

Meanwhile...

Quentin Tarantino defends the drugging and rape of a 13 year old girl because ‘she was into it’

The media doesn’t report it and everyone is fine with him whilst morrissey is suddenly the devil.

Now, we all need to stop being so childish and sensitive.
Morrissey has infact said nothing harmful the media is portraying him as a racist bigot when we all know full well he isn’t. The media is the enemy here.

Edit
I apologise as of course the media reported it. I made a poor argument. However I’m still startled by the reactions...there are virtually none and many don’t even know about it.

No. Morrissey is wrong this time. He has endorsed a far right racist political party. He has used the language and rhetoric of the far right as well. The number of longtime fans who are turning their backs on him is not without significance.

There comes a moment when the penny drops. And that’s when you discover what Morrissey’s politics and opinions are. For those who haven’t reached that point yet, the penny has already dropped with the rest of us exactly what yours are.

It’s not a hard one. He has expressed some extreme views that are incompatible with swathes of his listeners. Those of us who oppose the rise of far right politics simply cannot sit on our hands, swinging our legs and singing along. We’ve lost our boy.
