Let's disregard all these allegations and the others, and get extremely over invested in the word 'presenting'

  • One woman alleges that Brand raped her without a condom against a wall in his Los Angeles home. She says Brand tried to stop her leaving until she told him she was going to the bathroom.   • A second woman, in the UK, alleges that Brand assaulted her when he was in his early 30s and she was 16 and still at school. The question "why now (that he has "spoken truth to power") and not ten years ago?" is a fair one. But it doesn't necessarily have to be as sinister as "the establishment seeing him as a threat" and taking him down. I mean, come on. It could just be the establishment no longer feeling any kinship with him and no longer "protecting" him now that he is on the "enemy's" side. I don't know. I only know that I don't want to see a total dick becoming some kind of free speech martyr. It hurts the cause.

I probably should have explained better. I think the MSM/establishment are using this as an opportunity to take his views and reach off the board. Perhaps a more interesting question (considering apparently everyone knew about him 10 years ago) is why did this investigation not take place 10 years ago?

It's the same with Harvey Weinstein. A lot of Miramax people used to stay at a hotel i worked at in the mid-90[''s and were always talking about Harvey. It's why i laughed when the likes of Oprah and Hilary said they never knew about Harvey when it all broke. I mean if I as a concierge in a hotel in f***ing London knew you'd think they would as well.

His situation was different from Brand's in that he was still doing/saying the right things politically. It was more that his power had waned and he wasn't of use to anyone anymore so it was time for revenge to be exacted.

My larger point is I feel like the establishment collate this info on people but only ever use it at the time of their choosing.

Well, as I said before, I think that msm and institutions have been lying to us much that it’s natural for anyone capable of critical thinking to suspect “the establishment” would do that.

All I’m saying is that one needs to be careful here because not every revelation, not every news story is necessarily politically motivated. Could just be just a good story.

It was interesting that Newsnight on BBC2 last night claimed to have 'fresh allegations' concerning Satan Incarnate, sorry, Russell Brand. The 'allegations'? Some z-list 'comedian' that no one has heard of, sharing some dressing room tittle-tattle about the guy being a bit of a sexual predator. That was the 'allegations'. The previous day it was that he had flashed his willy at a woman and then, wait for it, laughed about it on his radio show. Jesus, he's worse than Saville!
Is this the best they can do?

They shape our reality, our politics, our economy, our media, our discourse - but we're not really supposed to talk about them, they like to hide in plain sight. Morrissey has been railing against the animal and food production industrial complex for decades. Brand has been talking about the military industrial complex, the medical industrial complex, and the censorship industrial complex. I don't know whether there is any truth to the allegations raised by Channel 4 and The Sunday Times - none of us do - but what the Spacey allegations demonstrated, is that a career can be destroyed on allegations alone. The allegations don't have to be true. And this does have a feel of career and character assassination being the prime motivation.

I see allegations of normal people against another person.

I agree since the internet stopped being an interruption to my sister wanting to phone her boyfriend while I wanted to lose at warcraft in the 90s and turned into a staple of human life... allegations can ruin lives and they do, frequently - Court doesn't seem to matter anymore.

BUUUUUT....

Ok, there's no but. I formed my opinion of brand based on the rumours throughout his entire career and that is I think these allegations are probably all true and I wish the people alleging these things a speedy resolution so everyone can move on - I hope Russell has his day in court and the chance to clear his name - my opinion is, it's all true though.

I don't think it's all a conspiracy. It shits on people that have clearly - true or not - gone through hell and have had the courage to speak up.
