Second day in a row market slides
Today, Friday July 19

DOW -4.64%
NASDAQ -2.79% (here goes hi-tech for ya, damn)
S&P -3.84%

What's goin' on...? Will mister Bush Jr Administration realize that country's domestic affairs are as important as fight with terrorism...
Enron... worldcom scandals... So far, Bush Jr is repeating his dad mistakes in focusing on foreign affairs exclusively and forgetting that quite a few Americans now are either jobless or their life savings going' up in smoke... Well, as long as we all have our pennies and dimes for Moz coming tour, we are cool... Personally, I perhaps would afford one or two shows... ok, maybe three... Damn it... The other day I went to Burger King (Horrors!), but I ordered vegeterian burger... it tasted kind of ok... well, let's tighten up our belts... and prepare for what, better or worse???... Opinions, folks???
 
i don't think its because Bush is "forgetting" anyone per se, because everyone has already been forgotten. I think its something that has been building for years, maybe even for decades, when corporations started buying their way into the white house, using the free reign that a capitalist society gets when they villify communism to get the government to turn away and scare the public to not say a word as they cling desperately to their jobs, deluded into thinking that the money will honestly trickle down to them as they get poorer and poorer, while the richer and richer, enjoying a land of plenty, have gorged themselves on tax breaks, incentives, and being able to do as they damn well please.

don't put your faith in politicians or economics. organize and fire your bosses then share the wealth. oh yeah, I'm gonna give my pennies and dimes to moz because he already has millions of dollars and I can't even afford the equipment I need to do my own creativity (music is an expensive hobby you know.) yesterday I strained my shoulder muscle reaching for a dime under a water machine, Moz can't have it 'cos I've already paid him lots of dollars and he only gives me tunes I've heard before.

UM, its not just george w. A lot of dems also had a hand in enron, authur anderson, worldcom, ect, including Clinton. The US suffered a major terror attack that would have toppled a lesser country. Janet Reno should have been brought up on charges of treason and it is a travesty that while the country focused on Elian, members on Al Queda were entering this country. you really think Gore/lieberman could do a better job? Even Gore said he couldn't. and why the hell are people going after Martha Stewart when people who lost billions of our retirement funds are building multi million dollar homes and walking the streets.

First, you puzzled me about Reno... everybody, Democrats and Republicans must share responsibility for September 11 tragedy... I don't think Reno is guilty say more then Clinton or Bush Father or Bob Dole... It was a collective American negligence of potential terror threat... JMHO...
Being Democratic voter, I hate to say it, but I believe you are right in a sense, that aloof Gore-bore with even more dull and boring lawyer from Connecticut Joe Lieberman would do a far worse job in uniting the country in the face of Muslim terror, then popular Bush Jr & Colin Powell did... Bush Jr is a Southern Bubba, he is not as bright as Gore, yet he has a common touch, he has feelings and he has heart (however simpleminded and intellectually-insufficient) and he is very street-smart... unlike wooden Al Gore, whose ideal occupation would be your boring Acme Liberal Academia Professor of Law... Does it mean I would vote for Bush Jr in two years? Hell no, I wish Arizona Senator McCain, whom I tremendously like and respect personally and politically-wise, would run either as Republican in primaries or as an Independent... So I would vote for McCain... If McCain would not run, I will not vote for your average slick Democrat like Senator Dasche (sp?), but I can not vote for a Republicans 'cause they are corporate America pleasing, middle class neglecting homophobic pro-life wonkers... But I'm ready to vote for a Democrat with integrity, somebody like... Oh, well are any Democrats with integrity left...??? Go McCain!!!

I like McCain as well but I don't think he is that well(skin cancer). I have met President Bush and he is quite charming,funny and is not as simpleminded as people believe, although not as charming as President Clinton. I think both Dems and Reps are into corporate America. One of my problems with the Republican party(besides woman reproductive and homosexual issues) is don't they have anyone who can run for President whose last name isn't Dole or Bush?
 
The US Stock Market is a tiny pimple in the world's economy.

If you want the real picture its in currancy speculation
1.5 Trillion Dollars are traded every day, 95% of which is speculation
The entire us stock market cannot not meet those numbers in a day let alone a year.

What you need to bang on bush about is that he is deflating the dollar
to encourage forigne investments which will in turn bost the economy

However this is not cool for US investors, who speculate in currancy.

There are so many economic oximorons in that statement!

Hey I am not a fan of bush either, he has don't nothing to protect investors and speculators. He is completely hell bend on turning around the economy so there can be more job openings at McDonalds, who cares about this kind of job creation.

Politicians have very little control over economic tieds
the US has been on an 8 year cycle for quite some time now
8 years of growth followed by a year of recession
before that it was 4 year cycles.

Politicians and the Federal Reserve can make minor adjustments and keep us out of a tail spin, but we are part of a global market and there is very little the US alone can do. That's why there are these global summits to try to maintain stability.

Explain to me how you figure people have been getting "poorer and poorer"
in the United States?

Fighting terrorism is a domestic affair as well, and more important than how long a recession lasts. But Bush does seem to have appointed some lightweights. I kinda liked that Rubin guy Clinton had... seemed smarter.

I don't know, man...don't know much about economics, but it seems like a natural cyclical thing, although if people get too negative a longer recession becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I had heard for 5-6 years the warnings all over the media that the stock market was inflated, so I don't know what the surprise was.

But hey, that's why I'm in law school, a recession-proof profession! I'm taking the bar next year, then you guys be sure to let me know if you need help in bankruptcy court. = )
(For the record....I'm going into public interest law...so don't anyone stereotype me as a bloodsucker....)

Yeah that veggie burger ain't so bad. Something tells me not many people are ordering it though, so it's probably not gonna last.

i got my economic's degree from the school of "been there, done that".

i'm sure you could remember a time when one income could support a family. I have a college degree and can't imagine that what i earn would support anyone else except myself. Many people where i work at have creditors calling them or they have second jobs.

the trickle down theory doesn't work. companies who were making record profits were still laying off people and having wage freezes. The money stays with one small group--the upper management--while everyone else is wondering how they are going to pay their bill that month.

most brand new jobs created are fast food and retail. That's barely above minimum wage and with no benefits. How do those jobs benefit anyone?

also, read micheal moore's "stupid white men" if you are looking for figures.

Well...the STOCK MARKET is a mess, the larger economy is not.

Yeah, because they probably want/have 2 cars, a cell phone, a DVD player, premium cable TV, $5.00 daily lattes at Starbucks, dining out at restaurants once or twice per week, etc. This is how the MIDDLE CLASS is living, and to me that is very rich living. The majority of Americans have jumped up to a higher level of wealth over the past 15 years, and that's just objective fact.

The gulf between the richest and the rest may be wide,
but your statement was that "the poor got poorer," and that's false, invented in your head. The poor got richer. The middle class got richer. And the rich got way richer.

maybe i should pity you. you're taught by people who have never actually been in the real world, or if they have been in the real world, they have most likely been at the disposal of some incredibly rich company.
