EMI Present:

'Viva Hate'
Remastered by Stephen Street
Release date: 26th March 2012

And

Record Store Day Single:

'Suedehead (Mael Mix)'
Remixed by Ron & Russell Mael
Release date: 23rd April 2012

EMI are pleased to announce the release through the classic Liberty label of a remastered version of Morrissey's debut album Viva Hate, and limited edition Record Store Day Ron & Russell Mael remix of his debut single 'Suedehead (Mael Mix)'.

Upon its release in 1988, Viva Hate announced to the world Morrissey's debut as a solo artist with an outstanding collection of songs which included the singles 'Suedehead' and 'Everyday Is Like Sunday'. The album charted at no. 1, having a chart stay of 20 weeks between March and August 1988, vindicating Morrissey in the face of those who doubted his ability to transcend The Smiths.

The album has now been remastered by original producer Stephen Street and the artwork - whose photo was changed for an EMI centenary edition in 1997 - has had the original photo restored. In addition, it features 'Treat Me Like A Human Being', which replaces 'The Ordinary Boys', and a written introduction from Morrissey's long-time confidant Chrissie Hynde.

Previously unseen, stunning photos from Jake Walters and Kevin Cummins adorn the sleeves and booklet. The album will be available on CD and vinyl. The LP version will be a 180g heavyweight, gatefold vinyl, housed in a wide-spine sleeve with a pull-out poster. The CD will be housed in a gatefold, card sleeve.

Following the album's release, on April 23rd EMI will release a limited edition 10-inch picture disc (Kevin Cummins' photo) of 'Suedehead (Mael Mix)', a remix of the song by Ron & Russell Mael, who have taken the track and given it their distinctive, inimitable touch: the perfect alliance between two artists who have great admiration for each other. The single will be b/w two previously unreleased BBC live tracks: 'We'll Let You Know' and 'Now My Heart Is Full', recorded at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in February 1995.

Now that is what I'm telling you all the time. Considernig art - from The Smiths to the YOR, and beyond - His legacy is majestic benchmark.
Celebrate that!, Solowists, when you still have the time; all in all, you are - passer by.
Morrissey will stay Forever!

we'll let you know

my youth pictures also, and my my ashes will be put in a wall with all
sorta Dutch china-ware, knows as Delfts blue...all been official, just
keep on paying my 3 monthly payment about 18 euroos

so celebrate that, Smiths lovers

Morrissey&Marr&Rourke&the Drummer, and I stay Forever.

[even Grant Ghowbiz&Jo Slee]

Just adding this release is another ' WTF?' , and if they even
tried they had gonna come with Bona Drag part 2, the songs that never
released, the early solo years 1988-90

Is this the real 'We'll Let you Know'? Regardless, I agree.
I don't think I'm a mindless fanboy, but I think the mans output is fantastic, right from the Smiths up to Years of Refusal.

Re-issue ! Re-package ! Re-package !
Re-evaluate the songs.

*yawn*

At this point Moz is only re(re)leasing records to pay for his rentboy addiction...

So far... This little snip-it of a comment has to win first prize! " rentboy"...? Hilarious and most likely true. But how much does a rentboy go for?? 100GBP should take care of him and doesn't require the re-assembling and re-hashing of a 25 year old record... Unless Morrissey calls this re-re-release, " VIVA RENTBOY"!!
complete with pullout porno poster and life size blow up doll of a series of dozens of rentboys in Her Majesties Secret Service!
Enjoy and fire away....

this is terrible- useless.

Am I the only one who thinks this artwork/typography is an improvement over the original? I thought the new layout/design of the 2010 Bona Drag reissue was a marked improvement over the original, and this one has the same gothic tone/typography, it would seem.

As happy as I am to soon be owning a remastered edition of Viva Hate, I have a love/hate relationship with Mozzer's askewed sense of historic revisionism. You can change the design, add celebratory liner notes and all the "Stunning unseen photographs" you want, but when you start tampering with the tracklisting in a way such as this, you're bound to piss the loyalists off while at the same time cheapening the overall legacy of the album.

Dropping "Ordinary Boys" for ANY reason is just foolish on Morrissey's part, as it is a truly beautiful song that appears late in the album, helping ot make the whole record engaging. To drop it in favour of substandard b-side fare such as "Treat Me Like a Human Being" makes no sense, especially when Ordinary Boys is sandwiched between two much better candidates for exclusion like "Break Up the Family" and "I Don't Mind If You Forget Me". If any song on the album had to go in favour of a new addition, I doubt any loyal fan would mind much if BUTF was hatched, seeing as it was pointlessly added in remastered form to last year's Very Best Of compilation.

Instead, one of the album's prettiest tracks gets axed in place of a b-side that was ALREADY RELEASED less than a year ago on another older single's pointless re-release.

I will be buying the VH reissue on vinyl and CD, as well as the Suedehead picture disc with the unreleased b-sides, but only because I'm a hardcore obsessive. And buying this product gives me ample right to bitch and complain about it, especially when you're dropping excellent songs for already-released lesser material.

That is gross!

Oh No! VIVA FIST?... BONA FIST?... KILL FIST?... fast forwards to YOU ARE THE FISTER... RINGLEADER OF THE FISTERS.. YEARS OF FISTING... now that IS gross!

Re: Article: Re-releases: "Viva Hate" (Mar. 26, 2012) and "Suedehead" (Apr. 23, 2012)

Just been told by someone who has a CD promo that the version of Treat Me Like A Human Being is exactly the same as the demo on Glamorous Glue B-side so not a better version as hoped.

..what a shame... I wonder if it is revisionism or if there is a legal necessity in not having the release being identical?

Re: Article: Re-releases: "Viva Hate" (Mar. 26, 2012) and "Suedehead" (Apr. 23, 2012)

if they leave ordinary boys out its not a true reissue. add all the songs you want but don't leave any out.

Well said... but he can do whatever he wants, the original is still well avaialble. I wonder if re-tracking allows for re-charting? ~Frost

Dear friend Peterb,

Where I've been? Seasick, Yet Still Docked.
People Are The Same Everywhere all the time on Solow, so, I decide to spend my time editing certain authobiography until Late Night every day (now, That's Entertainment!) - at my flat in Maudlin Street.
But I'm reading your posts, such a precious Glamorous Glue they are to me, indeed, they are Golden Lights among this Oscillate Wildly pamflets from gigantic bunch of Half A Persons from Solow.
If you cross Maudlin Street one of this days, pop up for green tea and jaffa cakes (strawberry injection), we could spin Ouija Board. After all, there is always Place In Hell For Me And My Friends.
Carry on, Sing Your Life!

we'll let you know

Morrissey is here - AGAIN!

I don't have your picture on my wall (and never will...). I decide: Go To Waste In The RIGHT Arms. You should to. As you know 'celibacy is the only real perversion' (Oscar Wilde).

Where did you learn to write? You write like a mental patient.

You're all just desperate to buy something with Morrissey's name on it. If anyone told me they had a copy of Viva Hate with Ordinary Boys missing replaced by an awful song that was on last year's Best OF I'd call them what they were and tell them to go where they should. This is the shoddiest re release so far. I look forward to what kind of awful font and useless track listing he comes up with to ruin Vauxhall. Anyone remember that great moment in Boy Racer where he smashes that EMI Parlophone record? Seems kind of pointless now no? Just because Morrissey has decided to cash in doesn't mean we have to.

Re: Article: Re-releases: "Viva Hate" (Mar. 26, 2012) and "Suedehead" (Apr. 23, 2012)

Don't get too excited fans outside of the U.K.! The picture disc for Suedehead is UK-only and is definitely NOT sold online... So if you live outside of the U.K., get ready to pay exorbinate amounts over the retail price on eBay...

meant EXORBITANT... not sure why my iPhone autocorrected that incorrectly??

Listen to me you punk. I am not the one coming on Morrissey's "fan site, hah fan site yeah right to trash the man. Isn't it? In fact, quite the contrast you goon. And I'm not in the mood for your chicanery and games. Don't you get it? You yes you may be his friend, but then we are the same.the same.

Truest to him and his music.

Always
