Viva Hate and Suedehead - true-to-you.net

14 February 2012

EMI Present:

'Viva Hate'
Remastered by Stephen Street
Release date: 26th March 2012

And

Record Store Day Single:

'Suedehead (Mael Mix)'
Remixed by Ron & Russell Mael
Release date: 23rd April 2012

EMI are pleased to announce the release through the classic Liberty label of a remastered version of Morrissey's debut album Viva Hate, and limited edition Record Store Day Ron & Russell Mael remix of his debut single 'Suedehead (Mael Mix)'.

Upon its release in 1988, Viva Hate announced to the world Morrissey's debut as a solo artist with an outstanding collection of songs which included the singles 'Suedehead' and 'Everyday Is Like Sunday'. The album charted at no. 1, having a chart stay of 20 weeks between March and August 1988, vindicating Morrissey in the face of those who doubted his ability to transcend The Smiths.

The album has now been remastered by original producer Stephen Street and the artwork - whose photo was changed for an EMI centenary edition in 1997 - has had the original photo restored. In addition, it features 'Treat Me Like A Human Being', which replaces 'The Ordinary Boys', and a written introduction from Morrissey's long-time confidant Chrissie Hynde.

Previously unseen, stunning photos from Jake Walters and Kevin Cummins adorn the sleeves and booklet. The album will be available on CD and vinyl. The LP version will be a 180g heavyweight, gatefold vinyl, housed in a wide-spine sleeve with a pull-out poster. The CD will be housed in a gatefold, card sleeve.

Following the album's release, on April 23rd EMI will release a limited edition 10-inch picture disc (Kevin Cummins' photo) of 'Suedehead (Mael Mix)', a remix of the song by Ron & Russell Mael, who have taken the track and given it their distinctive, inimitable touch: the perfect alliance between two artists who have great admiration for each other. The single will be b/w two previously unreleased BBC live tracks: 'We'll Let You Know' and 'Now My Heart Is Full', recorded at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in February 1995.

for all you haters, don't forget that this record was released almost 25 years ago! for those who bought it when it came out (i did), this fact only make us feel old. but keep in mind that there is a new crop of moz fans who deserve to hear these albums on something better than crap mp3s or hissy old cd's. re-mastering is not the devil people. the only thing that bothers me is his revisionist stance towards the tracklisting... i haven't heard 'human being' but it better be daaaamnnn good to replace 'ordinary boys'! i hope this george lucas shit ends soon... i'd really hate to hear 'oh phoney' in the place of 'driving your girlfriend home'. kudos for bringing in stephen street though! i really don't think i'd bother otherwise.

It is readily available for sale still to this day. People who may not have heard it don't need it re released.

This is a missed opportunity. A decent re-release of Viva Hate would include all 12 original songs plus:

Please Help the Cause
Hairdresser on Fire
Oh Well, I'll Never Learn
I Know Very Well How I Got My Name
Sister I'm a Poet
Will Never Marry
Disappointed
Dial a Cliche (early version)
Treat Me Like a Human Being
Safe Warm Lancashire Home
I Don't Want Us To Finish etc.

If it had been done properly then it could have been a worthwhile exercise.

Apart from the ridiculousness and hypocrisy of these releases, who the hell decided it would be a good idea to issue for sale a live rendition of "We'll Let You Know" which is, to all intents and purposes, identical to the version that appeared - almost twenty years ago - on "Beethoven Was Deaf"?

Have to agree that dropping ordinay boys seems like a mistake, lovely song even if the band it inspired were awful!

Re: Article: Re-releases: "Viva Hate" (Mar. 26, 2012) and "Suedehead" (Apr. 23, 2012)

Strange!
Why did Morrissey put a "vauxhall and I" pic (it looks like 1994) as the back photo of the remastered Viva Hate???

The hunt is on for the First Promos to appear!
Cheers Moz

This is really exciting news. Why are you people complaining about it? Everybody on this site is so boring, poo-pooing Morrissey for re-releasing his old material, but you all would likely complain if he didn't re-release anything at all. It's impossible to win with people like you. If it bothers you so terribly much, don't buy it. I'm sure plenty of people who actually like Morrissey will make up for your loss. No wonder Morrissey hates this site, what a load of nutcases.

I think it's more of a case of his hypocrisy, he constantly releasing old material when it seemed to bother him terribly that other people do it.
Now i don't think the people who complain about it would complain if he didn't re-release, more the people who do like it(you were making people up in your own head there).

Re: Article: Re-releases: "Viva Hate" (Mar. 26, 2012) and "Suedehead" (Apr. 23, 2012)

this has to stop ...... i love moz ..but same old gets boring i bought them all from the very start. even i have to stop now

Amen, last year Bona Drag, and the viva hate single ' every day is like sunday'

but as Morrissey said he hasn't had a cheque from EMI/Warner/reprise since 1992

Morrissey first album on another label was Southpaw Grammar, he took over the Smityhs deal, 5 albums
for EMI

so I think Morrissey will announce NOT to buy it very soon on TTY

Dear son,

I told Him to put "We'll Let You Know".
Thank you very much.

we'll let you know

Hey 'We'll Let you Know', where you been? I've missed you!

availablity is not the issue. it's the fact that it was mastered digitally by 1988 standards. to illustrate this, listen to your old viva hate cd next to years of refusal and note the difference in sound quality, volume, etc. this is why re-mastering is important, which is the point that i think you missed. if you're happy with the way viva hate currently sounds, don't buy the reissue.

Hey 'We'll Let you Know', where you been? I've missed you!

Dear friend Peterb,

Where I've been? Seasick, Yet Still Docked.
People Are The Same Everywhere all the time on Solow, so, I decide to spend my time editing certain authobiography until Late Night every day (now, That's Entertainment!) - at my flat in Maudlin Street.
But I'm reading your posts, such a precious Glamorous Glue they are to me, indeed, they are Golden Lights among this Oscillate Wildly pamflets from gigantic bunch of Half A Persons from Solow.
If you cross Maudlin Street one of this days, pop up for green tea and jaffa cakes (strawberry injection), we could spin Ouija Board. After all, there is always Place In Hell For Me And My Friends.
Carry on, Sing Your Life!

we'll let you know

I only care about song quality. The original Viva Hate sounds as beautiful as it did the day I bought it and that goes for the vinyl version too. I could listen to a cassette of that album and be taken by it's lyrics and melodies with no problems whatsoever. Re mastering is bogus.

I see all of the Morrissey haters were out in full force tonight. Making a mockery of course out of something good that Morrissey did, as usual. Resorting to your evil cruel bullshit. Isn’t it. NME conformists, back stabbing fans. With fans like you things, who needs enemies. Mentioning despicable things. When the truth is that you would like to drink his babies. Being as you can’t, yous are accusing him of using prostitutes while abusing him every chance you can. While he is still a lyrical genius and the most handsome man in the planet.
You are trying to intimidate him with your anti Viva Hate antics. Tragic really.
Give it up NME clones. We don’t give a f**k.

We Are The Same

Well said. Anyone posting here who hates Morrissey, just one question needs to be asked of you, why don't you f*** off and find something else to do with your time?

Re: Article: Re-releases: "Viva Hate" (Mar. 26, 2012) and "Suedehead" (Apr. 23, 2012)

Why do you comment, WHY??????????

It genuinely looks awful. Is there some reason Moz doesn't bother with professional design/typography these days? The Refusal stuff, especially the singles, was embarassing.

Don't try to defend the f***ing indefensible. Re-mastering is important? Because the average listener is so aurally sophisticated in their nuanced appreciation of pop songs that it makes a significant difference? f*** off. Nobody really believes that.

If we discount the mentally ill f***wits who, in a self-defeating quest for distinction, can't sleep in their beds at night until they've amassed at least a dozen identical copies of every recording, then the only people that re-mastering is important to are the people employed in the music industry. Just as the introduction of compact discs in the 1980s allowed record companies to increase the shelf-life of albums on the pretext that the latest technology provided the consumer with "a more authentic audio experience", so to the "re-mastering" of old albums in the twenty-first century is just the latest method of maintaining sales of products for which there would otherwise no longer be a viable market. Morrissey, of course, is happy to accept this corporate crap because he's desperate for EMI to put out his next (and, if there's any justice, last) album.

If you truly believe that re-mastered recordings are "important" because they offer the listener an enhanced experience worth paying actual money for, then you're even stupider than you have to be to be a Morrissey fan in 2012.

There is a certain type of Morrissey fan that has over the years been a constant sense of embarrassment to me. The ones that that grovel at his every bowel movement, swoon over every release and accept any of his bizarre and obnoxious comments as the word of god. And the above is one of them. You're vegetables hooked up intraveneously to his every flinch and as soon as anyone makes a criticism you call them haters.

He didn't. That pic is from 1988. Get some glasses.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I just couldn't be bothered with as many words as you used for the total twat telling me remastering is important.
