I have joined the site recently and have been trying to get my head around what is considered appropriate content to post on this site and what is not--ie what the rules of posting are.

To help me understand this I have read the Terms of Use for the site, which brings up my first question:

Why are there numerous, numerous posts on this site that violate the TOU? I'm referring of course to rules (laid out very clearly more than once in the TOU) that cite hateful, abusive or offensive posts as a violation of the rules.

There is even a whole thread, I discovered today, explicitly dedicated to hating people. This couldn't be a more blatant violation of the TOU, this thread has been sitting around for more than a year and moderators have taken no action. So my first question is, why are the TOU being ignored? I would really REALLY like a moderator response on this.

This also brings up the question, if the publicly posted TOU are not being followed by moderators, then what are the real, secret TOU that you are following? I am not being flippant here, I sincerely want to know what kinds of posts are actually not allowed on the site and would be removed?

My next questions are about the the ways in which feedback can be given on posts:

When should the "Report" link be clicked? And what response should be expected?

What is the meaning of each of the feedback buttons, and when is it appropriate to use them? (Perhaps there is a thread somewhere that describes this that I haven't been able to find...)

Is it true that posts receiving a certain volume of negative feedback automatically get blocked? How does this work?

Thank you in advance for your response to these questions. I do understand that Morrissey Solo is not a gentle and kind place. I don't naively expect to be treated with dignity and respect when I post. But I very much want to know what the real rules of engagement are, and what moderator response (if any) I can expect if things get rough.

Can you give us an example for the post which violates TOS?

I have to remind you that this site has been moderated very leniently.
Possibly most of the stuff you find "offensive" do not violate TOS.

Reported post should be used for three things:
-personal information about both registered and non-registered users
(however, some exclusions apply to depend on the subject)
    -unsolicited spam ads
    -explicit graphic images (porn)

One of the relevant threads of the subject:

I don't know if this post will be visible for you because I am not a mod. So there might be a rule I am not allowed to post on this thread and it is the prerogative of the mods.

I am a new member as well, and despite all the rules you should really feel free to post whatever you want as long as you don't release private information, make death threads, and threaten with violence. You have the same right to post as every other member.

There is a lot of liberty here and if you for any reason feel mistreated or bad about a post there is the report function.

On the other hand, if there are anonymous posters you can't ignore just remember, its only words.
They can be insulting, hateful or disrespectful and bringing you down if you let these words have effect on you. There are more important things in life. I know people are different and every one reacts differently.

There are many other positive things to be said about the site.
The information available is overwhelming and second to none.
There are many more nice people you will get in contact with and they will support you.
Don't let the rules make you hesitant to post.

And last but not least, there are quite a few posters, even anonymous, that are really funny.

This really isn't a site for the most part for people who like Morrissey and his music, this cannot be denied. A few people find it ok to say offensive things about him pretty much daily and pretty much the same thing. During tours, sometimes people will post things he says during concerts or how the crowd was, a few photos from off tour. Sorry, Morrissey, you deserve better and a whole lot of people think the world of you.

    The site is for everyone.

Wishful thinking on your part. This is the best place to look for compiled information, post specific links if you have better places to look.

Why is it your job to control, monitor, influence, block, sanitize, etc. posts? It isn't. And you know that, which is why I have been coming here for so many years.

The best thing about your site is the ability and availability to post what and how we feel about Morrissey..his music, his style, his concerts, his words, and his actions.

"The site is for everyone" never truer words spoken. Cheese eater, Crankfraud, Savior, Saint, Wordsmith may all be true or some or none of this may be true, but an open debate is at the heart of this site and what shouldn't be overlooked.

The real question to be asked is where would we go if this site didn't exist? Where can you find a crazy rabbit, a vegan butcher, a world traveling bi-sexual and a cast of characters in a land so far from normality that it could never be found on Google maps? Here.

You all consider Morrissey to be a road side attraction, he is a human being with feelings. I am sure he has grown numb from all of the nasty comments but it must have punched him in the gut at one time. Fuck them Moz, you are the best!

I think he's more like a snake farm, possibly with a religious cult attached.

My takeaway from reading this thread is that I can threaten another user on this site with sexual violence and it is not considered a violation of the TOS. Good to know.

    Second paragraph of the TOS:

"You agree to not use the Service to submit or link to any Content which is defamatory, abusive, hateful, threatening, spam or spam-like, likely to offend, contains adult or objectionable content, contains personal information of others, risks copyright infringement, encourages unlawful activity, or otherwise violates any laws."

I'm looking at the word "hateful" here. The specific thread I was referring to that violates the TOS is:
    http://www.morrissey-solo.com/threads/what-morrissey-fans-do-you-hate.136361/

This is a thread dedicated to directing hatred towards specific people by name.

I am really curious why this is not seen by moderators as a violation of the TOS. It's not like this whole paragraph of the TOS is being disregarded. The "contains personal information of others" part seems to be taken seriously. Why not the "hateful" or "threatening" parts?

Okay, so what I'm understanding is that the only portions of the TOS that I should expect moderator response on if violated are the three items above. Thank you.

As an Enneagram Type 1 (apparently) I would like to know why you don't just flip over all the cards and say that you think people here who in your opinion are horrible to Morrissey should be moderated?

I'm not particularly interested in steering what should happen in the future, I am just wildly curious about what's happening NOW. Why is this site like this? What are the rules? Who (if anybody) is running this joint?

BTW are you saying you're an Enneagram type One, or you think I am?

Why is this site like it is? Too early to tell.
Don't get a headache thinking about it.

Rules are boring. Just remember the 3 mentioned above.

DavidT " is running this joint " .
He might object to your phrasing but wouldn't say so.

I don't believe in this Enneatype 1 til 122 type bullshit.
    Neither should you.

Just post whatever you are thinking about whatever you want but especially your thoughts on Morrissey.
I am interested to read your thoughts. You are free.

By the way, are you a lawyer?

Maybe you should treat this site like someone's house where you are a guest. You say this is not a gentle and kind place. You wrote a book and the site promoted the book. Your other contribution to the site is this thread where you state what is wrong with the site.
Maybe you should make the site a better place by contributing something and interacting with people. You're not going to have a good time here if you start looking for things to report and then wondering why the action taken didn't meet your expectations.

Would ye ever feck off with your whining?

Do you not know that your 'hero' wrote an album entitled 'Viva Hate'? And spews forth monstrous bile whenever he isn't getting the face-time-attention-whore C List media 40 watt spotlight he thinks he's due? Everybody is at liberty to hate whatever they like. I hate your whiny complaining but will defend your right to do so, so long as you understand I don't give a fuck about your victim script on behalf of Morrissey. If somebody credibly threatens to intrude into anyone's real life then I'd expect the Moderators to exclude them from this creche, other than that you will just have to suck it up and accept that Free Speech isn't a joke to be 'moderated' so Special Snowflakes like yourself don't feel upset. Now piss off and get busy with #RepealThe8th rather than annoying/boring the hard-core 3 Mental Patients here. The cast changes but the song remains the same. Or you could just order a Fuck Morrissey-Solo t-shirt and piss off over to allyouneedismorrissey.com if this place has made you suffer from insomnia. They'll quickly sedate you with their 'fan' cheerleading of your idiotic Cult Leader and Cunt-In-Chief Morrissey.

Really? You're messing with me, right? :) A house? C'mon, more like an unsupervised playground. Or a school bus where the driver stares grimly ahead while kids dismember each other in the back. I'm a good kid! Help! I just wanna know that I won't be torn limb from limb for writing about how deeply I love Morrissey on a Morrissey fan site!

Brummie has an agenda and many posters here have an equal an opposite agenda. He prefers to post the hypocrisy he sees in Morrissey's words and actions and others look to deify him as some second coming. I believe like you he is somewhere in the middle.

Do I believe he drags out the MIM song to mask his dairy addiction? No. Do I believe he is the most honest, caring, friendly individual to ever walk the earth? No. But to me that is not the point. He is simply a man or at the time he wrote his most influential and touching lyrics a boy. A person that when I heard The Queen is Dead played on a turntable at a friend's house in college changed my life. And for the better.

We can pick apart the bones of an aging C list pop star, which has been done well and to death here, but I will always remember certain times in my life...when his music was playing in the background and for a short while I was happy and felt like I belonged here on this crazy planet. That is what I carry with me to this day, and I am sure many others do even if some try their hardest to deny it.

Okay, it's a playground.I can work with that. And how does one survive the playground?
    I feel that you're posting a self-fulfilling prophecy here.
    Good luck.
