Queen's Greatest Hits honored as best selling UK album of all time

It's the best-selling album in the UK, not the best-selling UK album. That would probably be Dark Side of the Moon, with Queen's Greatest Hits somewhere in the top 20.

No idea where the Smiths would come in either case, but doubt it's high enough for anyone to have ever sat down and worked it out.

Nowhere near.
The best selling albums reach tens of millions.
Moz and Smiths albums struggle to shift hundreds of thousands...

Actually, nothing in the list has sold ten million copies in the UK. The top-selling album sold 6.1 million.

But, yeah, although they haven't historically actually struggled to shift hundreds of thousands, none of the Smiths or Morrissey albums have sold in seven figures in the UK.

Worldwide though, it wouldn't be an unreasonable estimate that TQID has sold 2-3 million copies.

OK, so the best sellers reach the millions in the UK then, rather than tens of millions worldwide - still, something no Smith/Moz has achieved. Queen is Dead is only single platinum (300 to 600,000). And many Smith/Moz albums do struggle to shift hundreds of thousands. In fact, five (out of ten) of the Morrissey solo albums haven't even sold 100,000 in the UK.
